Hellwig Products, an industry-leading manufacturer of towing, hauling and performance suspension products, debuted its “Double-Duty” Ford F-150 at the recent 2021 SEMA Show. The Hellwig “Double-Duty” F-150 was built by Old Steel Fabrication in Leona Valley, California and is outfitted with all the necessary tools and equipment for construction as well as outdoor recreation.
The 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid was chosen as the platform for the “Double-Duty” build because of the new Pro Power onboard generator with 7,200 watts of available power and best-in-class payload capacity. Hellwig Products sway bars were added front and rear to improve driver control both on and off-road along with a set of Hellwig Silent Ride Helper Springs to provide level load support from the added weight of tools, equipment, and recreational gear. An Icon Vehicle Dynamics Stage 5 Suspension System was paired with satin black 17-inch Rebound PRO wheels and 35-inch Falken Wild Peak All-Terrain tires for increased clearance and off-road traction.
An AT Overland Equipment Summit Truck Topper was added to keep both tools and toys secure and provide shelter for two when exploring off-grid. With a weight of only 340 pounds, the Summit is built from CNC-cut and formed aluminum with a bonded honeycomb composite. The topper sports a distinctive wedge-style pop-top that provides up to 8 feet of headroom and a 48×80-inch sleep platform with a 2.5-inch mattress that can support up to 500 pounds. Options include a light-blocking Thinsulate liner with a higher R-value, a cab slider window, a roof rack, side slider windows, Seitz “Euro-style” side windows (17×43 inches), side hatch doors (17×43 inches), rear liftgate insert window, a 12 volt power system, interior lighting, awnings, interior cabinetry with pull-out refrigerators and cooktops, forced air heating, and a color match to vehicle.
The rest of the rig features a number of goodies that would make any overlander drool. A Yakima LockNLoad heavy-duty rack mounted to the truck topper allows for larger items like a Jackson Nirvana kayak or construction ladders for easy transportation and access. An Overland Vehicle Systems Nomadic Awning 270 was also added for shade while working or camping. For added protection off-road, Addictive Desert Designs Stealth front and rear bumpers were installed along with Rock Slider Side Steps and a Warn Industries Winch with Factor 55 Ultra Hook. Upgraded lighting was provided by Rigid Industries and an aggressive Laser X Grille was fitted to the front by T-Rex Grilles.
A variety of Ford Performance parts were utilized including the Cat-Back Extreme exhaust system to let the F-150’s Powerboost engine breathe. Exterior Ford Performance accessories added include exterior trim, differential and transmission pan covers, off-road underbody lighting, an off-road recovery kit and an ARB Air Compressor. Additional power-adders include an Injen cold air intake, upgraded intercooler and charge pipe.
Properly equipped for work and recreation, Milwaukee Power Tools supplied an assortment of power tools while Boxo Tools supplemented with a tool bag and hand tools, all stored in a custom toolbox. When at camp, the “Double-Duty” is complete with a GSI outdoors camping stove and kitchen items as well Front Runner Outfitters Expander camping chairs.
