Arctic Fox 1150

Northwood Manufacturing has been building rugged, four-season RVs in La Grande, Oregon, for decades, and its Arctic Fox and Wolf Creek hardwall truck campers have earned a strong following among truck camper owners who value durability, cold-weather capability, and traditional RV construction. Rather than chasing ultralight weights, Northwood focuses on building campers designed to withstand years of travel and extended use. Both brands feature fully welded aluminum framing, laminated walls, high-density block-foam insulation, fiberglass exteriors, and heated holding-tank systems—construction methods aimed squarely at owners who expect to camp well beyond the traditional summer season.

The Arctic Fox is Northwood’s premium truck camper line and offers the company’s largest and most fully equipped floorplans. The lineup ranges from the non-slide Arctic Fox 865 to large slide-out models like the 990, 992, 1140, and 1150, giving buyers several configurations for both short-bed and long-bed trucks. Arctic Fox campers are particularly well known for their generous tank capacities, substantial insulation, heated holding tanks, cathedral-arched ceilings, and heavy-duty aluminum construction. The result is a true four-season camper designed for owners who place comfort, storage, tank capacity, and all-weather capability ahead of minimizing weight.

The Wolf Creek line takes a somewhat different approach. Designed as Northwood’s lighter and simpler alternative to the Arctic Fox, Wolf Creek campers retain much of the same rugged construction philosophy while eliminating slide-outs altogether. The current lineup consists of the 850, 890, and 910, with dry weights starting just over 2,000 pounds. All three are hard-side, non-slide campers, making them appealing to buyers who want fewer moving parts, a narrower weight envelope, and immediate access to the camper without extending a slide. Yet these aren’t stripped-down campers: depending on the model and options, buyers can still equip a Wolf Creek with features such as solar, an onboard generator, air conditioning, and Northwood’s Fox Landing entry system.

The Arctic Fox features R-7 block-foam insulation in 2-inch-thick walls, R-7 in the floor, R-11 in the basement, and an impressive R-18 in the ceiling. The four-season package also includes R-2 dual-pane glass windows and 12-volt heated holding tanks, helping protect the plumbing and tanks during freezing weather. The Wolf Creek uses a lighter construction to keep weight down, with R-5 block-foam insulation in the 1-inch thick walls, R-7 in the floor, R-11 in the basement, and R-7 in the ceiling, along with R-2 dual-pane glass windows and 12-volt heated holding tanks. While Wolf Creek doesn’t provide the same level of thermal protection as Arctic Fox, its combination of insulated construction, dual-pane windows, and heated tanks still makes it a capable four-season camper for owners who want a lighter, non-slide alternative.

Choosing between the two brands ultimately comes down to the truck, desired floorplan, and how much camper you want to carry. Wolf Creek makes the most sense for buyers looking for a lighter, non-slide Northwood camper, while Arctic Fox is aimed at those wanting larger tanks, more interior room, slide-outs, and a more feature-rich camping experience. Either way, these are substantial campers, and actual weights deserve close attention when matching one to a truck—especially Arctic Fox models, where the mandatory Fox Package adds 595 pounds to Northwood’s published base dry weights. For buyers with enough payload, however, both Arctic Fox and Wolf Creek remain compelling choices for four-season truck camping, particularly for travelers who value robust construction and proven all-weather capability over being the lightest camper on the road.
