We are selling our 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 4×4 Cummins diesel truck and our 2014 Northstar TC800 pop-up camper for $40,000. The TC800 pop-up truck camper has more living space of any other 19-foot-long pop-up, can park in any auto parking site, has been modified for safer off-roading (lighter, more clearance with low center of gravity), and has a roof top solar panel for extended backcountry stays, thus eliminating tghe need for campground hookups.
We have used this vehicle for years, spent long periods in scenic remote areas, made adjustments/modifications to the camper as needs arose but my aging knees/ back regretfully says it is time to sell.
We purchased this TC800 camper at the factory in Iowa from one of the company’s owners. We took every one of his suggestions to increase the life of the camper and increase reliability – a German made stove and fiberglass exterior.
This 2006 Dodge 2500 Ram is powered by the Cummins 5.7L Turbo Charged Diesel. Mileage is 147,000 which is less than half the anticipated life. It cruises over mountain passes at or above speed limits.

The truck has been raised and has oversized tires for off-roading extra clearance. The Northstar TC800’s low weight (1,765 pounds),low center of gravity, and retractable top reduces headwind drag, reduces diesel consumption and increases safety by reducing chances of rollovers.
The swivel table can be removed for access to storage beneath. Pads can be placed over the raised storage area forming a 6×3-foot bed
The camper has been centered in the truck bed and SECURED for off road (4WD) travel. The camper contains a propane stove, a furnace, a two-burner stove, a 3.7 cubic foot refrigerator, a full 5-inch-thick full sized queen mattress plus an additional 6×3-foot cushioned bed so it sleeps three. A 125-watt solar panel provides sufficient power enabling back country stays in comfort for extended periods.
The queen-size, coiled mattress is 5-inches thick and has storage on both sides. Lift bed for lots of storage.
The camper sits in an 8-foot-long truck bed which gives it more living space than any camper of comparable size. We chose not to buy separate bathroom or showers. A decision we never regretted as living space would be reduced and weight increased. The toilet is a 5-gallon bucket topped with a sealable, odor-catching cushion. The toilet contains disposable, compostable bags. For us, sink bathes suffice with occasional showers at campgrounds.
The truck is 19 feet long and the Northstar camper has no overhangs, so the combination footprint is 19 feet long, which allows parking wherever cars can park. This eliminates searches for larger parking areas (grocery stores, strip malls, wherever) where parking would be legal. As an added benefit, our insurance company did not increase the cost of emergency road service insurance since our footprint is identical to an auto.

Why this is a great, little camper
One of our favorite camping spots is Arches National Park, which has the greatest density of arches in the world. With this camper, we ignore park camping regulations. Park camping sites are reserved for months in advance. A day pass allows us free camping when we want as long as we want on BLM land adjoining the park.
An 8-mile-long dirt road within the park leads to an isolated area of arches. Four miles beyond the arches is BLM land. Signs warn of soft sand/unmaintained road but has never been a problem even when snow fell. We select a scenic site and settle in for the night. Alone with stars and critters.
On a warm night, we open the top front window, turn on the overhead fan in the rear of the camper which draws in cool night air over us. The six upper-side windows can remain dark, zipped open to clear or to screened.
The rig is located in Los Alamitos, California. Will provide additional photos/information and arrange showings. Contact Wayne Andreen at wandreen@aol.com.
