Looking for an affordable, well-cared-for Northstar truck camper without spending a fortune? This 2007 Northstar Laredo SC is worth a serious look. Priced at just $8,900, this hard-side slide-in has been stored indoors in a large heated garage when not in use—a big plus for an older truck camper and one of the reasons the interior and beautiful oak cabinetry have held up so well.
Built by Northstar, a company with a long-standing reputation for producing durable, practical truck campers, the Laredo SC offers a comfortable cabover queen-size bed, a leather pull-out sleeper sofa, removable pedestal dining table, full kitchen, bathroom with cassette toilet, generous storage, and all the basic systems needed for comfortable camping.
The original factory sofa has been replaced with a leather pull-out sleeper sofa, giving the camper additional sleeping capacity while providing a comfortable place to relax during the day. Extensive oak cabinetry throughout the interior provides plenty of storage for food, clothing, cookware, and camping gear.
Comfortable, Self-Contained Camping
The kitchen comes equipped with a propane cooktop/stove and a three-way refrigerator that operates on 120-volt AC power, 12-volt DC power, or propane. A propane-fired water heater supplies hot water, while a propane forced-air furnace provides heat during cold-weather camping.
Fresh water is supplied by a 10-gallon onboard tank and 12-volt electric water pump, with a city-water hookup available when camping with utilities. Propane is supplied by a 20-pound cylinder, and the camper is equipped with a 12-volt marine deep-cycle battery and shore-power connection.
The bathroom is equipped with a cassette toilet. It was originally configured as a wet bath, but the shower head has been removed.
Other features include an exterior awning, roof ventilation fan, smoke detector, carbon-monoxide detector, and LP-gas detector.
Ham Radio and CB-Friendly Setup
One particularly useful feature for amateur-radio and CB enthusiasts is the camper’s existing communications setup. An external SO-239 RF coaxial antenna connection is installed for amateur (ham) radio or CB use, along with a 12-volt Anderson Powerpole connector rated at 20 amps for powering radio equipment.
The camper is also TV-ready, with a 12-volt power outlet and coaxial connection to the factory-installed exterior TV antenna. TV is not included.
A standard seven-way RV/trailer electrical connector provides the connection between the camper and truck.
Torklift FastGuns Included
The sale includes four Torklift FastGun adjustable camper tie-downs, an expensive and useful addition for the next owner.
The truck-mounted receiver brackets currently installed on the seller’s Toyota Tundra are not included because they are specific to that truck and will remain with it. The buyer will need to obtain the proper truck-specific camper tie-down/receiver system for the truck being used.
Factory Weight Information
According to the original Northstar factory weight label, the camper weighs 2,180 pounds under the loading conditions specified on the label. A photograph of the original factory identification and weight label is available.
Importantly, the 2,180-pound figure should not be interpreted as an empty or dry weight. Prospective buyers should carefully verify their truck’s actual payload capacity before purchasing.
Check the yellow Tire and Loading Information sticker on the driver’s-side door jamb for the truck’s maximum cargo-carrying capacity. Remember that the camper, passengers, cargo, tie-down equipment, and everything else carried by the truck count against available payload.
Buyers should also verify the truck’s GVWR, front and rear GAWRs, and tire load ratings to ensure the truck is properly matched to the camper.
Condition
For a 2007 model, this Northstar presents well and has been cared for over the years. The interior and oak cabinetry have held up particularly well, aided by the camper being stored indoors in a heated garage rather than exposed to the elements year-round.
As expected with a camper of this age, there is some normal cosmetic wear. Some of the original exterior graphics and decals have been removed, resulting in visible differences in the exterior finish.
There is also a small cosmetic dent on the front-left exterior caused by a bird strike while traveling. The damage is cosmetic and has no effect on the camper’s interior or operation.
