When it comes to hauling a pop-up truck camper, the 3/4-ton pickup truck occupies a sweet spot in the market. Trucks like the Ford F-250, Ram 2500, Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, and GMC Sierra 2500HD offer substantially more payload than the typical half-ton while retaining much of the maneuverability and everyday usability that make a pickup appealing in the first place. Match one of these trucks with the right pop-up camper and you get a capable combination that can travel comfortably on the highway while still tackling the rough forest roads and remote campsites that make truck camping so much fun.

Of course, not all 3/4-ton trucks are created equal. Payload ratings can vary tremendously depending on cab configuration, engine, drivetrain, trim level, and factory options. A diesel crew-cab 4×4 can have considerably less payload than a similarly equipped gasoline-powered regular-cab truck. That’s why it’s important to look at the payload certification label on your individual truck rather than relying on a manufacturer’s advertised maximum. Remember, everything you put in the truck—including the camper, passengers, water, propane, batteries, food, gear, and aftermarket accessories—counts against the truck’s payload rating.

Fortunately, today’s pop-up truck camper market offers an impressive selection for 3/4-ton pickups. Buyers can choose from traditional soft-wall campers, lightweight composite designs, and even hard-sided telescoping campers. Construction methods are equally diverse, ranging from tried-and-true wood framing to welded aluminum frames and sophisticated foam-core composite shells. Some campers emphasize simplicity and low weight, while others provide large holding tanks, cassette toilets, showers, and other amenities normally associated with much heavier hard-side truck campers.

Weight remains the most important consideration when putting together a 3/4-ton truck camper combination. For this reason, we’ve arranged the campers in this guide from lightest to heaviest based on their published dry weights. Dry weight, however, is only the starting point. Water weighs approximately 8.3 pounds per gallon, and propane, batteries, food, clothing, camping gear, passengers, and factory options can easily add several hundred pounds to the finished rig. Before purchasing any camper, you’ll want to calculate its realistic loaded weight and compare that figure with the payload rating of your particular truck.

So which pop-up truck campers are worthy of your 3/4-ton pickup? We’ve researched today’s market and assembled what we believe is one of the most comprehensive lists available. Our list includes campers from Alaskan, BundutecUSA, Four Wheel Campers, Hallmark, Northstar, Outfitter, Overland Explorer Vehicles, Phoenix, Scout, Supertramp, and Palomino, with everything from minimalist lightweight designs to fully equipped expedition campers. Whether your travels consist of weekend getaways, extended boondocking trips, or serious off-road exploration, chances are good that you’ll find a camper here that fits both your truck and your style of adventure.

Note: If you don’t see a particular make or model listed here, like those made by Four Wheel Campers, Hallmark, and BundutecUSA, check our half-ton pop-up truck camper buyer’s guide for additional lightweight campers that are also compatible with 3/4-ton trucks.
