Winnebago, a recognized leader in RV manufacturing, has gone full-overland beast mode with its latest Backcountry Series release called the ARKA 20Z, an off-grid, all-season adventure truck, similar in size and capability to Supertramp’s Megatron, ADV MOBIL’s Adventure Truck, and EarthRoamer’s LTi.
The ARKA, of course, isn’t anything like your grandpa’s Winnebago. The ARKA’s habitat sits on a Ram 5500 sporting a full Buckstop super single conversion with 41-inch mud-terrain tires. Yes, Winnebago has dipped its toes into the overlanding arena before with the Backcountry Series Revel and EKKO vans, but ARKA signals that the venerable motorhome manufacturer has jumped into the overlanding community feet first.
Yet the ARKA 20Z is more than just a copycat rig. Extensive research and simulation testing went into creating this overland rig.
“ARKA was designed by listening closely to real backcountry travelers,” said Stefanie Whittington, senior product manager for Winnebago’s compact Class C and adventure platforms. “We looked at what breaks down, what creates friction and what gives people confidence when they’re days from pavement. Every decision came back to durability, autonomy, and ease of use.”
Bridging off-road capability and premium RV comfort, ARKA is a self-reliant basecamp engineered for the demands of real backcountry travel. According to the press release, the purpose-driven design is backed by Winnebago’s OEM-level testing, including durability simulations replicating over 100,000 miles of road and trail input.

Built on the RAM 5500 chassis with the powerful Cummins 6.7L diesel, a 52 gallon fuel tank, and a hefty 19,500-pound GVWR, the platform is able to tackle tough terrain, vibrations, and gear-heavy adventures with confidence. The rig also sports a Buckstop winch-ready front bumper, Buckstop fender flares, Buckstop wheels, an onboard air compressor, and a 480-amp dual-alternator setup feeding the ARKA’s house battery. The reported dry weight of the rig is about 16,000 pounds, leaving an extra 3,500 pounds for passengers and gear. ARKA is rated to tow up to 15,000 pounds.
“Buckstop is extremely proud to be a part of the ARKA,” said Dorian Hartfield, Buckstop Truckware founder and CEO. “The ability of Winnebago to bring a vehicle of this nature to market in volume is impressive. It’s even more exciting that Winnebago has built a genuine overland vehicle. It’s lightweight, has a great off-road capability, and sits on an independently-mounted, articulating subframe. When it comes to overlanding, it checks all of the boxes.”
Inside, ARKA balances rugged utility with comfort and with a fully-functional layout. The rear features a garage with double-door access, a convertible dinette with modular sleeping options, L-track mounting, a full kitchen with a large DC compressor refrigerator, a full wet-bath with cassette toilet on a sliding tray, aluminum cabinetry, and a north-south cabover bed. Capacities include holding tanks sizes of 60 gallons fresh, 40 gallons grey, and a 4.75 gallon cassette toilet.

With R-15 insulation in the roof and R-12 in the walls, Winnebago’s ARKA 20Z is a true four season rig. It boasts hydronic heating, heated holding tanks and floors, and an industry-first heat recovery ventilation system that regulates temperature, manages humidity and reduces condensation across all temperatures from -10F to 120F.
Winnebago’s ARKA is designed so essential systems are centrally managed and intentionally accessible. Winnebago Connect System allows users to monitor and control power, climate, water and security from a connected device, simplifying off-grid living. A 48-volt electrical architecture with up to 15kWh of lithium battery capacity, a 3,600-watt inverter and multiple charging sources including solar, alternator and shore power deliver reliable, long-duration autonomy without added complexity.

Reinforced construction and integrated systems support awareness and control in changing conditions. Thoughtful engineering helps protect both the vehicle and its occupants, supporting confident travel across unfamiliar terrain and rugged, off-road environments.
Winnebago’s ARKA is built as a flexible platform that evolves with its owners over time. Modular storage solutions and a curated range of bolt-on interior and exterior accessories allow users to personalize their setup as needs change, while preserving a focused foundation that comes equipped with everything they need and nothing they don’t.
Truck Camper Adventure fully supports this move by Winnebago. You know that the overland segment has taken off when classic motorhome builders, like Winnebago, are getting into the act.
“Every strong brand has chapters that redefine it, and ARKA marks one of those moments for Winnebago,” said Chris West, president of Winnebago Motorhomes. “We are honoring our heritage and strengthening the brand, our focus is simple: purposeful innovation, authentic outdoor experiences and products that truly earn the trust of our customers.”
The ARKA 20Z will make its public debut at Overland Expo West in Flagstaff, Arizona (May 15–17, 2026), followed by appearances at Overland Expo PNW in Redmond, Oregon (June 26–28) and Overland Mountain West in Loveland, Colorado (August 21–23).
Fully equipped, the Winnebago ARKA 20Z lists for $331,920, considerably less than an EarthRoamer which lists for more than $1,000,000. For more information, visit the company’s website at www.winnebago.com.
