These Truck Campers at Overland Expo Mountain West will Blow you Away

The 2025 Overland Expo Mountain West is now in the record books with over 20,000 attendees. Events during the three-day expo included demos, food, music, displays, classes and workshops, and more. One thing that really struck us was how many truck camper and truck topper companies were at the show. Even with the economy going through tough times, the overland segment still seems to be vibrant and healthy.

Some of the big names in the industry included Four Wheel Campers, Scout, Kingstar, Rugged Mountain, Elevation Off Grid, Bowen Customs, Soaring Eagle Campers, Host Campers, Outfitter Manufacturing, Alaskan, Battle Born Batteries, Kimbo, Peak Performance, Tiger Adventure Vehicles, and more.

One thing that we enjoy doing is rating the top 10 rigs at the show. We do this not only because we enjoy doing it, but because it also rewards those companies and individuals who invested so much time and money into their builds. So without further adieu, here are 10 truck campers at the Overland Expo Mountain West that will blow you away.

1. EOG-Rugged Mountain Denali 3S

The black-on-black look with the patriotic stars-and-stripes-themed wrap made this rig really stand out from the crowd. This Rugged Mountain rig really has it all, including an Elevation Off Grid Black Edition F-550 with 42-inch tires and a LiquidSpring suspension, a custom CM Flatbed with StableCamper boxes, and Rugged Mountain’s Denali 3S camper. This mountain-size camper has everything going for it including three slide-outs and 180 square feet of living space, more than any other truck camper in the industry.

Inside the Denali 3S, you’ll find a large dry-bath, a center island with a sink, a central vacuum system, a 1,200 watt solar power system, a 1,350 amp hour lithium battery system, a 3,000 watt inverter, and two 50 amp DC-DC chargers. The camper has zero propane, heating instead is provided by a Timberline diesel heater with a 5-gallon fuel tank. You’ll also find a large stainless steel, single-basin sink in the center island, a 10 cubic foot DC compressor refrigerator, an induction cooktop, a convection microwave oven and air fryer, acrylic dual thermopane windows, loads of comfortable seating, and a Garmin touch screen system with a 360 degree camera, With 82 gallons fresh, 70 gallons grey, and 40 gallons black, the Rugged Mountain Denali 3S also boasts the largest holding tanks in the industry.

2. Tyler Snider’s Tacoma-AluCab-Bowen Rig

When it comes to smaller builds, Tyler Snider’s rig took the top spot. His amazing truck topper build consists of a 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter outfitted with a Bowen Customs truck bed topped off with an AluCab Land Cruiser ModCAP camper. But Tyler’s rig wasn’t just something that he just threw together over a weekend. This build was in the planning stages for years. The Tacoma and ModCAP camper were built with Baja in mind with more water storage, security, and space for gear like wet suits and fishing rods. The rig features an insulated foam floor—a must for any good truck topper—a large Expion360 lithium battery bank, a solar power system, an inverter, a REDARC electrical management system, and more.

Built specifically for overlanding and off-roading, the Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter features a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine, an 8-speed automatic tranny, an Old Man Emu (OME) suspension, and substantial underbody protection including high-strength steel skid plates and rock rails. It also boasts an integrated high-mount air intake, an ARB sports bar with additional lighting, an onboard air compressor, and a bed-mounted 2,400-watt inverter. The truck also looks great with the Method’s signature gold wheels with a rear mounted spare.

3. Eddie Haemmerle’s Phoenix CyberTruck Camper

If you’re looking for a custom camper, the team at Phoenix Campers builds one of the best. Nothing is too hard or difficult for this Colorado-based company and this includes the futuristic-looking EV Tesla Cybertruck. Constructed of aluminum, the popup camper weighs only 1,500 pounds, and features a 6-foot length with the tailgate open. Inside this unique camper you’ll find a toilet, a two burner stove, a propane-fired furnace, two DC compressor refrigerators and more. With regard to power, this camper has it in spades with a 400 amp hour lithium battery, a 400 watt solar power system, a DC-DC charger, and a 3,000 watt inverter. This is more than enough to fulfill the needs of running two refrigerators, running the air conditioner, running a Starlink, running the fan. Of course, the camper and EV truck can draw power from each other if either gets low, which is always a bonus with a battery-powered EV truck.

The Cybertruck is a unique piece of engineering with a unique look, but what really puts this rig over the top is the matching Phoenix pop-up truck camper. Prior to this, nobody had built anything quite like it. “Phoenix Campers works with anyone,” Eddie said. “If you want this to be purple, you want it to have induction cooktop, you want it to have two refrigerators, they will do it. Whatever your needs are, they will do it.” For more info about EV trucks and truck campers, click here.

4. EOG Ford F-550-Bowen Customs-Supertramp Flagship Rig

When you take an Elevation Off Grid Ford F-350 outfitted with a Bowen Customs truck bed and top it off with a Supertramp Flagship LT, you have a very special rig indeed. What also caught our eye is how well the white truck and bed contrasts with Flagship’s earth tones. It’s a great look indeed, especially with the gold Method wheels. When it comes to overall camper quality, the Supertramp Flagship LT is a cut above the rest. The fiberglass composite molds used in the construction of the camper are first rate with no seams at all. Better yet, the camper, which sports an open floorplan with an L-shape sofa, weighs only 1,350 pounds and offers everything that you could possibly want including 330 watts of solar, two Maxxair 12 volt fans, a Truma Combi furnace-water heater furnace, a 65L Isotherm DC compressor refrigerator, a portable cassette toilet, an electric roof lift, and more.

Most people think that EOG works only on Class 4 and Class 5 trucks, but that isn’t true. One-ton trucks, like this Ford F-350, can get the full EOG-LiquidSpring treatment as well. Of course, Bowen Customs builds the best truck camper beds in today’s market. Take a close look at any of their beds and you’ll see quality workmanship, the TIG welds on the 1/8-inch and 1/4-inch aluminum are top notch and the sealing mechanism is second to none.

5. Ford F250-Outpost 6.5 Camper Rig

In only one year, Outpost Camper has become a force in the industry. The Outpost 6.5 is the company’s only model and it’s one of the best.  While it’s true that the diminutive hard-side doesn’t have a dedicated bathroom, a reclining sofa, and a huge north-south cabover, what it does offer is a minimalist approach to camping and overlanding that can’t be beat. Inside, this cutting-edge camper you’ll find an open floorplan with loads of seating, a kitchen countertop longer than what you’ll find in many campers today, and a 48 volt Ecoflow electrical system with a massive lithium battery. More importantly, the Outpost 6.5 weighs less than 1,500 pounds, making it light and nimble enough to be hauled on a half-ton pickup.

The heart of the Outpost 6.5 is the aforementioned Ecoflow 48 volt electrical system that delivers more power for the same current, enabling the camper to power more efficiently with its massive 5 kilowatt hour lithium battery. With a diesel-fired furnace, the composite truck camper is also propane free, marking a major shift in the industry in how camper’s are heated and powered. Better yet, the base model of the Outpost 6.5 lists for only $39,995, making it a bargain compared to the pricey vans being built and sold today.

6. Host Yukon-Elevation Off Grid F-550 Rig

At last year’s Expo, EOG and Host took first place, so it’s no surprise that they would make our top 10 again with this eye-popping combo. This particular Host Yukon 11.6, however, got even more attention because it sports Host’s brand-new center island floorplan option. The three slide-outs, of course, helps, but a big plus with the Yukon is it double recliner in the rear. It’s a big selling point. The Host Yukon is also made to boondock. With massive holding tanks at 65 gallons fresh, 52 grey, and 32 gallons black, the camper can camp off-grid for week’s at a time. This means less time at the dump station and more time for boondocking, always a good thing in our book.

Pairing this mountain-size camper with Elevation Off Grid’s Black Edition Ford F-550 was a terrific match for the show. EOG’s Black Edition comes with a number of perks including 42-inch tires, the LiquidSpring suspension, and the company’s OEM-style proprietary 8-foot bed. Up front you’ll find EOG’s front bumper with PIAA lights, and a Warn 16.5ti winch. The truck also comes with height and ride comfort levels to dial-in the ride even more. If you’ve never driven an EOG truck, you’re really missing out on what is a silky-smooth ride. It really does drive like a Ford F-150, plus the turning radius allows the truck to turn on a dime.

7. Ford F-550-Kingstar KRUZR 10 Flatback Rig

Marcus Niemela at Kingstar was proud to show us this rig and for good reason. This KRUZR 10 sports Kingstar’s flatback design which makes it a true four season camper. “This particular KRUZR 10 is a flatback model,” Marcus explained. “It goes flat across the top. And what that allows us to do to raise the door and have a gray tank, a four-season gray tank inside, whereas the fastback is the three-and-a-half-season gray tank. It’s perfect for people who want to do a lot of skiing, a lot of winter events where they don’t want to have to bypass the gray tank. This particular KRUZR 10 also has an enclosed wet-bath. So some people don’t want to see the toilet when they walk in. They want to have a complete enclosed shower area. So that’s the two highlights for this particular KRUZR 10.”

What makes the KRUZR 10 better than the popular KRUZR 8? One thing is that the KRUZR 10 floor length is 12 inches longer than the KRUZR 8 and 6 inches longer on the bunk. The interior and exterior storage as well as water capacity rises from 65 gallons on the 8 Series to 75 gallons on 10 Series. Max solar on the 6 and 8 Series is 1,000 watts whereas the 10 Series allows for 1,200 watts. Great for boondocking. This KRUZR 10 is shown mounted on a Ford F-550 DRW truck with a flatbed outfitted with Kingstar’s garage and flatbed boxes.

8. Juniper Overland Ram 3500-Scout Olympic Pop-Up Rig

You can always count on Juniper Overland to deliver a terrific build or two at the Overland Expo and this show didn’t disappoint. This particular rig consists of a 2022 Ram 3500 with the Cummins 6.7L diesel and a Scout Olympic Pop-Up. The truck has been upfitted with a number of American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) upgrades including 37-inch Falcon Wildpeak AT4W tires, Katla 17-inch wheels, a Carli 3.25-inch suspension, an AEV HD front umpber, Baja lights, an AEV HD intercooler skid plate, and White Knuckle rock sliders. The Scout Olympic Pop-Up is a terrific companion for this truck. The camper features a 132 amp hour Expion360 battery, a 175 watt solar panel, an SAE plug for a portable solar panel, a DC-DC charger, Scout’s Canyon interior fabric, exterior bed rail runners to mount gear, and more.

The Scout brand is a top seller at Juniper Overland, which is located in Denver, Colorado. “The Scout Campers sell like hot cakes, here in Colorado,” said Dylan Deeds, Marketing Manager at Juniper Overland. “We are turning them out every week. We are receive a delivery from Scout every month. They are the perfect style of camper for this area. It’s a great four season, general purpose camper. The hard-wall models sell better than the pop-ups, but the pop-up have only been around a year. There are pros and cons to each type of camper—it really comes down to how the customer is planning to use the camper.”

9.  Tiger Panthera HD Ford F-350

When it comes to special-built, chassis-mounted campers, Tiger Adventure Vehicles builds one of the best. The Tiger Panthera HD is built on either a Ford F-350 or F-450 4×4 chassis and upfitted, as the company says, “to conquer tough off-road and overland terrain. The rig features a 2.5-inch or a 4-inch lift with 36-inch tires for maximum ground clearance. As part of the build, the dual rear wheels are converted to super singles for optimum off-road performance.

Inside the Tiger Panthera HD you’ll find everything that you need to camp comfortably including a large wet-bath, a large kitchen with a wardrobe/closet, a small dinette, a sofa, and a large queen-size cabover sleeping area. The dry weight of the rig varies between 10,000 and 12,000 pounds depending on options. Features includes a 48-gallon fresh water holding tank, 18 gallons of grey, a cassette toilet, a 400 amp hour lithium battery bank, a 600 watt solar power system, a 30 amp DC-DC charger, an air conditioner, and a 2,000 watt inverter. The kitchen is loaded as well with a 4.3 cubic foot DC compressor refrigerator, a microwave oven, and induction cooktop, a slide-out cutting board, and a large pantry. Options include a composting toilet, a electric Wrappon toilet, a Froli Modular Sleep System, electric steps, Starlink, and more.

10. Outfitter Apex 8-Chevy Silverado 2500 Rig

When it comes to pop-up truck camper designs, the Outfitter Apex 8 is the absolute best and we aren’t kidding. We just published a story on this very fact. Why do we feel so strongly about this camper? Because this four-season popup has it all including a massive 44 gallon fresh water holding tank, 16 gallons grey, and 16 gallons black. All three tanks are heated in the basement. Furthermore, the layout features a large wet-bath, a massive dinette, underbed storage and more. Looking for more fresh water and a cassette toilet? The company can do that too which boosts the fresh water capacity to a staggering 60 gallons, an unheard of number for a pop-up truck camper. Another thing that distinguishes the Outfitter Apex 8 is the molded fiberglass composite body, giving the camper an incredibly stout construction.

“The main thing that really separates the Apex 8 from other pop-ups is it’s lightweight overall, in comparison to a lot of the other truck campers of this size,” said Scott Mavis, owner and CEO of Outfitter Manufacturing. “The interior wet-bath and shower, the heated basement, the size of the battery compartment where a total of 600 amp hours of lithium can be stored—and the four season capability really makes this camper stand out.” The camper is shown here mounted on a Chevy Silverado 2500 crew cab truck. The Outfitter Apex 8 fits on both short-bed and long-bed trucks.

Honorable Mention. Alaskan 630-Ram 1500 Rig

We’ve always been a big fan of Alaskan Campers because of it’s unique telescoping hard-top design. The Alaskan 630 is the company’s latest design and its a winner. The Alaskan 630 is a true short-bed model that integrates with truck’s tailgate, allowing it to be opened or closed with the camper mounted on the truck. This camper also sports the company’s new rugged grey offering, which is a major departure from the classic white that has been norm since the 1950s. The 630’s layout features a side dinette and a cassette toilet on the passenger side, a full-length kitchen countertop on the driver side, and a full-size east-west cabover bed. The camper boasts a 190 watt solar power system, an Expion360 162 amp hour lithium battery, a DC-DC charger, and a 15 gallon fresh water holding tank.

What makes the Alaskan Camper unique, of course, is the unique hard-top that raises and lowers. Being a hard-top, of course, offers a better four season camping experience with an impressive R-13 spray-foam insulation in the top and R-11 insulation in the walls. Of course, it’s hard to ignore the classic, retro lines of an Alaskan Camper. As a matter of fact, Alaskan Campers has been making overland-style truck campers since 1953, longer than anybody else in the industry today. Sold factory direct at the company’s Winlock, Washington, headquarters.
