There’s no doubt about it, our friends at Elevation Off Grid (EOG), Bowen Customs, and Kingstar Campers are on a roll. It seems like new truck camper rig rigs featuring all three of these three companies are being rolled out weekly. One that we recently had the pleasure of seeing is a rig called “Rogue One,” owned by Gregg Grant and Heike Momiyama. Rogue One (named after the Star Wars film) has it all: a white EOG Black Edition Ford F-550 CA84 with a LiquidSpring suspension and size 41-inch tires, a matching white Bowen Customs truck bed, and a Kingstar KRUZR 8 luxury truck camper. Bowen’s matching white, aftermarket truck bed not only looks great, but integrates all of the components in this build perfectly. As a matter of fact, the rig is so amazing that it was showcased at the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. To learn more about the Rogue One and how this build came about, we spoke with Gregg and Heike.
Thanks, guys, for talking with us. Tell us about yourself. Where are you from?
Gregg and Heike: Gregg is a USMC veteran and retired Master Technician. Heike is a retired Chemical Engineer. Our home base is in Colorado, but we do spend a lot of time exploring in our truck camper. We are happily retired!
How long have you owned your truck camper?
Gregg and Heike: We have had this rig since April of 2025. Prior to this one we had various RVs such as toy haulers and most recently a van. This is our very first truck camper.
Can you tell us about your Kingstar camper and why you chose that particular make and model?
Gregg and Heike: The truck camper is a Kingstar KRUZR 8 with the Command Center and includes the Lux package, upgraded solar and battery capacity, side saddle water tanks, and rear Gen 2 Overland Pack and Tower. We chose Kingstar for their thoughtful and innovative designs as well as the craftsmanship and overall build quality. We like the Command Center layout for its versatility. We can both relax in the main space, or we can fold out the various tables when we need them. The bed area is spacious and can be used to lounge in with plenty of head room, which essentially expands our usable living area, and has a great skylight for a beautiful view of the stars at night. The bathroom design with the sliding platform is an innovative design which minimizes the bathroom footprint while maintaining a large dry bath. We chose the side saddle water tank option which doubled our water storage to 62 gal. The rear storage boxes are streamlined to maintain our departure angle while still supplementing our outside storage capacity. We also opted for a Wrappon Trekker electric toilet. We like the lower profile of the Kingstar which keeps our overall height to just under 12 feet. The Kingstar camper is perfect for us.

The KRUZR 8 is a great camper. Have you had any issues with your camper that the company should know about?
Gregg and Heike: There are only two issues, and they are minor. It would be nice to have a water level indicator for the main water tank. Now that Victron has this as a feature in their monitoring system perhaps one can be added. The other is regarding the side saddle water tanks. These tanks run along the outside of the camper and inside of the truck bed. The drain cannot be accessed when the camper is installed in the truck. Luckily, Bowen Customs was able to add simple drain lines to the tanks so that we can access them when the camper is loaded in the truck.
Tell us about your Bowen Customs truck bed? Why did you decide to go with them?
Gregg and Heike: We chose Bowen Customs because they are leading the way with their innovations such as the articulating bed which protects the camper from excessive strain and the ability to retain factory bed height for the camper which keeps our overall height to below 12 feet. For our CA84 chassis, we had bed a 30-inch garage with a slide out installed that allows us to easily and securely transport our bikes. The boxes provide generous storage space while maintaining our ground clearance. Brent and his team’s customer focus was evident from the beginning. They listened to what we wanted and worked closely with Elevation Off Grid and Kingstar to deliver on it. On top of all that, their beds look awesome!

What kinds of things do you keep stored in your Bowen Customs truck bed?
Gregg and Heike: Our Bowen Customs bed helps us stay organized with each box dedicated to specific cargo. For example, a box for recovery gear, the long box for chairs and tables, one for hiking gear, tools, etc. and a box that gets used every time we are camped is the outdoor kitchen supply box so we don’t have to keep going in and out of the camper for utensils, plates, spices, etc. Who knew the bed storage system could make such a difference?
Can you tell us about your camper’s 12 volt and 110 volt electrical systems in your camper? Did you do anything to improve the OEM system?
Gregg and Heike: The Kingstar KRUZR 8’s Victron system controls a total of 920 amp hours of LiFePO4 batteries and 1,000 watts of solar. We have two inverters – one 3,000 watt inverter and one 500 watt inverter dedicated to the Command Center for all the electronic needs. Actually, we have another 2,000 watt inverter in the Ford F550 – Ford ProPower. This is one upgrade that we had not appreciated before camping in the rig. Jerime at EOG had recommended ordering this option and it turns out to be a great addition. We now essentially carry shore power with us through the F-550 so we can charge our batteries without needing a generator. We have used this a number of times when we have been camped in the forest or with cloudy skies for a lengthy time and it delivers more charging power than our DC-DC alternator charger.
We also added a few custom things to our setup. We have a Dometic fridge in the truck cab and rock lights under the cab/truck bed that we wanted to connect to the camper house batteries so that they would not run down the truck batteries. EOG and Kingstar worked closely together to ensure each end was wired correctly for seamless connection.

What aspects of Rogue One are you particularly proud of?
Gregg and Heike: Everything! We put detailed thought into how we were going to use this rig. Our intent was to include all of the features we needed up front so that we could avoid the challenges of having to add things later. We absolutely made the right decision to go with EOG, Bowen Customs and Kingstar. The three “pieces” came together seamlessly. Even though there are three companies involved it feels like they fit together perfectly, and the final product is fantastic.
Do you have any particular pieces of gear or truck camper mods that you would recommend to others?
Gregg and Heike: Wiring “accessories” to the house batteries is critical. You don’t want to be in the middle of nowhere and have your truck battery die (yes, we do have a jump starter, but better not to need it in the first place). Also, make sure the ruggedness of your rig and gear meets the needs of your travels – whether that’s suspension and tire upgrades or recovery gear.

We love your Elevation Off Grid Black Edition truck? Can you tell us more about it?
Gregg and Heike: We have not talked much about Elevation Off Grid yet. I have said great things about Bowen and Kingstar, and for us, EOG was the key to tying it all together. Jerime spec’d out the Ford and made suggestions on all the relevant options. We have the EOG Black Edition F-550 Supercab with the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel which includes LiquidSpring suspension. We also added several options that we felt were important to support our travels. Things like EOG designed rear seat delete with pull out drawer and storage, onboard air compressor, rock lights, 360 and rear-view cameras, TruEarth Leveling, heat shield tinting (a must have if you are traveling anywhere in the West), and custom wiring between the truck and the camper beyond what is normally supplied. The EOG team coordinated everything with Ford, Bowen and Kingstar. We did not have to take the truck to a bunch of places to have it built out. The other companies delivered everything to EOG. In the end, EOG loaded up our camper and we happily drove off. As close to one-stop shopping as you can get! We appreciate the EOG team’s professionalism and expertise.

Did you need to do anything to beef-up your truck’s suspension?
Gregg and Heike: Nope, not a thing. The EOG Black Edition F-550’s LiquidSpring suspension and 19,500 GVWR has us covered. The truck has met or exceeded our expectations in providing a smooth and stable ride particularly off-road, in high winds and on winding mountain roads. The increased comfort on highways is also noticeable. The added bonus is TruEarth leveling which is a game changer for camping. When we pull up to camp we simply hit the button and we’re set, no worrying about finding the perfectly level spot or dealing with blocks.
What wheel and tires do you have on your truck and what inflation values do you typically run?
Gregg and Heike: Our Black Edition Ford F-550 from EOG includes a 20-inch one-piece forged aluminum wheels with Goodyear G275 335/80R20 mud-terrain tires. With the camper and fully loaded we run 70psi front and 80psi rear.
Have you had your rig weighed yet?
Gregg and Heike: We have. Fully loaded with 62 gallons of water, 64 gallons of fuel, gear and both of us, the rig weighs 19,000 pounds exactly. The front axle weighs 6,960 pounds, while the rear axle weighs 12,040 pounds.
Do you have any regrets in any of your truck and camper choices? Anything you wished that you had done differently?
Gregg and Heike: No regrets. We’ve only had it since April, but we have already spent a lot of time in it. If we were to do it again today we would build the exact same rig.
What kind of mileage are you getting with your setup?
Gregg and Heike: It varies, of course, but with the 6.7L diesel we see anything from 11-15 mpg on average.
What kind of places are you planning to visit in your truck camper rig?
Gregg and Heike: We enjoy exploring scenic places off the beaten path and in remote places. Some of our favorites include Colorado, southern Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. We also plan to head north to Canada and Alaska. So many amazing places to see!
Have you been to our Quartzsite rally yet?
Gregg and Heike: We did not get our rig in time for the 2025 Rally, but we intend to be at next week’s 2026 Rally!
Thanks for talking with us. Do you have any closing words of advice for your readers relating to truck campers and truck camper life?
Gregg and Heike: So far, we are really enjoying our experience with our new Kingstar KRUZR 8 truck camper. What’s great about truck campers is that they are very accessible. Many people already own a truck as their daily driver and adding a truck camper is a great way to get out and enjoy amazing places whether full time or just for the weekend. You can find one in any size for any budget.
