THIS LISTING HAS SOLD. If you’ve been searching for an affordable, turn-key truck camper rig with a proven four-season camper, low-mileage Super Duty, and plenty of upgrades, this 2010 Ford F-350 and 2011 Northstar American Hero deserves a closer look. Located in West Des Moines, Iowa, the complete rig is being offered for $40,000, while the Northstar camper can be purchased separately for $14,000. The owners are retiring and preparing for full-time travel in a larger RV, putting this well-cared-for truck camper combination on the market.
At the heart of the rig is a 2010 Ford F-350 XLT Crew Cab SRW 4×4 with only 40,000 miles. Better yet, it’s powered by Ford’s proven 6.8L Triton V10 gasoline engine, eliminating many of the emissions-system and maintenance concerns associated with modern diesels. The truck is equipped with a 4.10 limited-slip differential and factory camper package. The original pickup bed has also been replaced with a versatile UTE flatbed featuring removable sides and a removable tailgate, allowing the truck to retain much of its utility when the camper is unloaded.
Several additional upgrades make the F-350 particularly well suited for truck camper duty. Four underbody toolboxes provide valuable exterior storage, while Rancho adjustable shocks help manage the load. The truck rides on commercial-duty Yokohama TY303 265/70R19.5 tires mounted on custom steel wheels—a substantial upgrade for carrying a camper.

A Proven Northstar Four-Season Camper
Mounted on the Ford is a 2011 Northstar American Hero, a hardwall camper the owners have successfully used throughout all four seasons. The camper measures 108 inches along the floor, 94 inches wide, and provides an impressive 80 inches of interior headroom. The cabover extends 86 inches and accommodates a full 60×80-inch queen-size mattress. Published dry weight is 2,396 pounds.
Inside, the American Hero provides a comfortable and practical layout with dual-pane swing-out windows featuring integrated shades, a convertible dinette, cabover privacy curtain, stereo, television, satellite radio, and a wet bath. The galley features a two-burner Dometic glass-top stove and a generous 6.6-cubic-foot Dometic refrigerator.
Four-season capability is supported by a 16,000-BTU auto-ignition furnace and a 15-gallon heated gray-water tank. The camper carries 30 gallons of fresh water and features a 6-gallon DSI water heater, cassette toilet, outdoor shower, and two 20-pound propane cylinders. For warmer weather, a low-profile 9,200-BTU Coleman Mach 8 air conditioner keeps the interior comfortable.

Lithium Power and Generator Setup
The electrical system has received several worthwhile upgrades. The camper features 30-amp shore power, a new lithium-compatible converter, and a 100Ah lithium battery. All of the camper’s switches have also been upgraded to quality Blue Sea switches.
For extended off-grid camping, the rear cargo carrier incorporates a custom generator enclosure originally designed around a Honda EU2000i. A professionally thought-out auxiliary fuel system makes the setup especially useful for longer stays. A 5-gallon steel race-style fuel cell with an internal bladder, foam, and external venting is mounted in the passenger-side rear generator storage box. Fuel reaches the generator through a steel-braided hose and quick disconnect, while a 20-amp pin-and-sleeve connector handles electrical power. The arrangement allows the generator to be disconnected and removed when desired.
The rear of the camper is also equipped with Torklift GlowStep scissor steps, HappiJac electric jacks, four spring-loaded turnbuckles, and a custom detachable porch. The porch attaches directly to the flatbed and allows the entry steps to mount along the side, creating a particularly comfortable setup for extended stays.
Another thoughtful upgrade eliminates one of the little annoyances familiar to longtime RV owners: nearly all of the camper’s exterior locks have been replaced with three-digit combination locks. That means no more ubiquitous CH751 keys to keep track of, with the power-cord compartment being the lone exception.

Ready for the Next Adventure
This isn’t a truck and camper combination assembled simply to look impressive in a campground. The owners have used the Northstar in all four seasons and appreciated its ability to reach destinations inaccessible to larger RVs. With the kids now grown and the owners retired, they’re moving to a larger RV for full-time travel, which is the only reason this capable Northstar rig is being offered for sale.
The combination of a Northstar hard-wall camper, extremely low-mileage Ford F-350, gasoline V10, 19.5-inch commercial tires, utility flatbed, lithium battery, substantial exterior storage, and dedicated generator system makes this a particularly interesting package for anyone looking to get into serious truck camping without spending six figures on a new rig.
The complete 2010 Ford F-350 and 2011 Northstar American Hero package is offered for $40,000. The camper can also be purchased separately for $14,000. The rig is located in West Des Moines, Iowa, and reasonable offers will be considered.
