RVIA Reports Record Truck Camper Shipments in June

According to the RV Industry Association’s (RVIA) June 2021 survey report, wholesale shipments for truck campers and RVs continued at a record pace in June 2021 as consumer demand remains high. The results of the survey showed that total RV shipments numbered 50,706 units, an increase of 25.3 percent compared to the 40,462 units shipped during June 2020. This June was also up 7 percent against the previous best of 47,416 shipments in June 2017.

June 2021 was a record month for wholesale truck camper shipments as well. The report showed that 419 campers shipped in June 2021 with 338 shipped in June 2020, an increase of 24 percent. This makes the year-to-date total of 2,177 units for 2021 compared to 1,411 units in 2020, an overall increase of 54.3 percent.

“While Lance is certainly not insulated from the global and industry-wide supply chain challenges, the team has done a fantastic job of anticipating them when possible and more often than not, reacting to the news as it is obtained from our supplier partners,” stated Bob Rogers, Lance’s Director of Marketing. “Solutions have been found by adjusting production to accommodate altered supplier schedules and in some select cases seeking out alternative sources, all with the end goal of keeping production flowing as consistently as possible, while maintaining the highest possible quality standards Lance is well known for.”

Unfortunately, the 2021 year-to-date total doesn’t accurately reflect how healthy the truck camper industry actually is since many companies like Four Wheel Campers, Hallmark, Outfitter, Phoenix, KingStar, Bundutec, Nimbl Vehicles, Overland Explorer Vehicles, Alaskan, and others, sell factory direct only. The total units shipped and sold factory direct in 2021 is actually much higher.

Truck camper manufacturers reporting wholesale numbers to the RVIA include Lance, Host Industries, Adventurer Manufacturing (Eagle Camp, Adventurer and Scout), nuCamp, Northwood Manufacturing (Arctic Fox and Wolf Creek), Palomino (Backpack, Real Lite, and Rogue), Northern Lite, Northstar, and Bigfoot.

With the new report, the RV industry has now set a new record for RV shipments in each of the last four quarters, with the second quarter (March-June 2021) setting a new all-time high for any quarter. The 151,760 units shipped in the second quarter of 2021 is a 2 percent increase over the previous record set in the first quarter of this year.
