Kingstar Campers Reveals New Flatback Design at Overland Expo Mountain West

Kingstar Campers revealed its new Flatback design at the 2025 Overland Expo Mountain West. The Flatback option was featured on a Kingstar KRUZR 10 camper, the newest and largest camper in Kingstar’s growing truck camper catalog. Aside from the obvious difference on top, the Flatback has a noticeable change inside the camper in that there are only two floor levels instead of the standard three. The Flatback is also a true four-season camper.

“We call this particular design our Flatback,” said Marcus Niemela, Kingstar Co-owner and CEO. “It’s flat across the top. What this allows us to do is to raise the door and have a four-season gray tank inside, whereas the Fastback uses a three-and-a-half-season gray tank. It’s for people who want to ski and use their camper during winter. It gives our customer’s another option on when and where they can use our campers.”

In addition to the new Fastback, the Michigan-based manufacturer revealed a few other things in the KRUZR 10 that show that Kingstar Campers remains on the cutting edge of innovation.

“In this particular camper at the show, we also introduced our new, enclosed wet-bath. Some people don’t want to see the toilet when they walk in. They want the privacy and to have a completely enclosed shower area. So these are the two highlights on this particular 10 series camper.”

The Flatback design is a terrific offering for those who demand a four-season camping experience, though we have to admit, we prefer Kingstar’s unique Fastback styling because it reminds us of the classic Fastback Mustang designs of the late-1960s.

“We sell much more Fastback campers because of our signature look of that ’60-styles Mustang,” Marcus explained. “Then also, if you get entertainment packages, like Starlink and Peplink, we put that on the rear of the camper, you’re not adding to the overall height clearance to the Fastback roof. Whereas with the Flatback you’re adding about another 12 inches of clearance to the roof.”

It’s nice to have options and Kingstar probably offers more than almost anybody in the industry. Another option on full display on the KRUZR 10 Flatback is Kingstar’s new Kayak Mount.

“Our new Kayak Mount mounts off the rear jack leg. It can be mounted on either the passenger or on the driver side. It’s the same platform and the same design that we use for our spare tire lift. We use it for kayaks, and we’ll soon be coming out with another vertical mount for mountain bikes and E-bikes. It stows against the back of the camper and rotates 180 degrees. You power it up and down with the jack leg. We are sticklers on not wanting bungy cords and ratchet straps on our campers. We like our solutions to look neat, tidy, and user friendly,” Marcus said.

But when it comes to new Kingstar news, that’s not the end it. Marcus revealed something big that will soon be coming down the pike.

“For all you canine and feline owners, there’s going to be a really cool setup where your pets will have their area, but they can come into your area as well, and we’ll just keep it at that,” he said.
