Kingstar Company is a Houghton, Michigan-based manufacturer that takes a decidedly premium approach to the hard-side truck camper. Rather than offering a sprawling collection of floorplans, Kingstar concentrates on the elite KRUZR series, with the KRUZR 6, KRUZR 8, and KRUZR 10 covering short-bed, long-bed, and larger one-ton/flatbed applications. These aren’t stripped-down campers designed simply to hit a low advertised weight. Kingstar builds the KRUZR as a highly equipped, four-season camper from the outset, with substantial electrical systems, large holding tanks, premium appliances, and interiors designed for extended travel. The result is a relatively small lineup of campers aimed squarely at buyers who value durability, cold-weather performance, and serious off-grid capability.
Construction and four season insulation are major parts of the Kingstar formula. Unlike many premium truck camper manufacturers that have moved toward aluminum or composite framing, Kingstar builds the KRUZR around a wood-framed structure filled with closed-cell spray-foam insulation. The spray foam fills cavities and adheres to the surrounding structure, creating a well-insulated shell while helping reduce air infiltration and thermal loss. Kingstar complements this construction with thermal-pane windows and protected plumbing systems designed for cold-weather use. Combined with the standard Truma Combi Eco Plus furnace and water heater, the KRUZR is built with genuine four-season camping in mind, making it particularly appealing to owners who intend to camp in freezing temperatures rather than putting their camper into storage when winter arrives.
Kingstar is equally impressive when it comes to off-grid power and water capacity. Current KRUZR campers come standard with a massive 920 amp hour lithium battery bank, consisting of two 460 amp hour Epoch batteries, along with 880 watts of rooftop solar, a 3,000-watt Victron inverter, and a 50-amp Victron DC-to-DC charger. That kind of electrical system would be a major upgrade on many truck campers, yet Kingstar incorporates it into the standard build. Fresh-water capacity is equally impressive, ranging from 55 gallons in the KRUZR 6 to 65 gallons in the KRUZR 8 and an enormous 75 gallons in the KRUZR 10. Induction cooking further reduces dependence on propane, while the large battery and solar system makes it practical to operate electrical appliances for extended periods away from hookups.
Dog owners will also want to take a close look at Kingstar’s innovative K-9 KRUZR, an optional kennel configuration available across the KRUZR 6, 8, and 10 series. Rather than simply providing a place to stash a portable dog crate, Kingstar integrates a dedicated kennel into the camper itself. The compartment is insulated, heated, and lighted and includes a water spigot, floor drain, and pass-through door into the camper. The KRUZR 6 and 10 use a 26-inch kennel, while the KRUZR 8 can accommodate a larger 36-inch kennel. And if you don’t travel with a dog, the same compartment can serve as a useful gear garage—making the K-9 KRUZR one of the more creative storage and pet-friendly solutions we’ve ever seen in a truck camper.
Of course, all of this capability comes with weight, which is why truck selection is particularly important with a Kingstar. The short-bed KRUZR 6 weighs approximately 3,300 pounds dry, while the KRUZR 8 comes in around 3,600 pounds and the big KRUZR 10 around 3,900 pounds before water, propane, passengers, and personal gear are added. Kingstar therefore targets these campers primarily toward properly rated one-ton trucks, with the KRUZR 10 particularly well suited to a one-ton dually or flatbed platform. For buyers with enough truck underneath them, however, the payoff is substantial: a rugged, highly insulated hard-side camper with unusually large water reserves and one of the most capable standard lithium-and-solar packages in the truck camper industry. Kingstar may offer only three KRUZR models, but each is clearly built around the same philosophy—four-season comfort and extended off-grid independence without requiring owners to spend thousands upgrading a lightly equipped camper after the sale.

The KRUZR is available in multiple configurations, including two widths: a standard 7-foot 7-inch model and an 8-foot-wide CA/Flatbed version as well as two rear roof designs: Fast Back and Flat Back.
