Let me first state that this post was not intended to plagiarize what has already been written about by a similar web site. Those of you who read what I have to say will often come across recommendations made by me suggesting you read something from a different web site. I feel the truck camper community represents a small group of free spirit individuates who make up a tiny percentage of the entire RV community. Weather you choose to be in a truck camper or a 45 motor home during your travels at some point we will all need some of the same resources during our travel time.

The practice of staying over night on a commercial business property as a guest who is not required to pay a fee is where I am going with this post. Apparently the web has already jumped on this issue and developed an ap entitled All Stays. The ap will confirm locations that have been approved for over night use by us RV’ers. Obviously Wal Mart parking lots should not be considered a point of destination. The use of such facility’s should be infrequent. Consideration to fellow RV’ers as well as the host business should be your top priority. Noise and trash management along with a genuine thank you to the manager will go along way in keeping these resources open to us. Spending a couple bucks at the restaurant or retail outlet will further enhance the memory of your stay with the staff.

With that being said I would be remiss if I did not touch on one last point. Don’t expect amenities or security to be provided, you are solely responsible for your passengers and equipment. I mention this because I wanted to share an experience I had in Oregon. My wife and I were hunkered down for an emergency night at a retail outlet in the pouring rain along with about 20 others. The adjacent camp ground was full so I did not have a lot of options. Thankfully there was just enough time to cover the boat before the deluge began. Shortly after a quick make shift dinner just before nightfall we sat at the dinner table discussing our plans for the following day, suddenly the unlocked door swung open and there stood a local with no good on his mind. To the thief’s credit he had practiced his lines and quickly stated that he had mistaken my rig for his and promptly shut the door. I was so shocked that it took a minute to investigate, by that time the thief had made his get away. I went out into the rain and asked some fellow RV’ers about the incident and several had experienced the same event. Obviously the bum was casing rigs looking for an easy pawn. We called the police department and explained the circumstance. I never heard what transpired after that. My point in sharing the memory of that night is simply to remind all of you not to become complacent during your vacation. Events liked the one I just described can happen anywhere, at anytime.

      Freespool,

Here’s my thought. I agree with every word you said as well as what has been posted on this topic by others. I bet everyone in this forum feels the same way.

However, in my opinion, the problem is not us. it is the pigs who are trashing our world and believe it is their right to do whatever they want wherever they want. I find the current situation disheartening and have no answer. I guess it is a sign of age that I feel there was a time when ethics and common respect had some meaning. I am afraid that time is past.:(

Honestly Steve it’s somewhat difficult to have much of a dialog on an open forum about this subject with out interjecting politics’s and I would rather not go there. Suffice to say choices made will always come with consequences. The lessons learned by you and I when we were young about having skin in the game can easily be used as argument material. I bet the stuff you worked for versus the stuff that you obtained without effort is treated differently.

Looking back into history it is easy to find philosophers who were the authors of brilliant strategies that can be used in today’s society.

The bottom line is we now govern through elected representatives rather than holding on to the belief in an eye for an eye. This IMO is a good thing but the new system only recognizes the majority. Even if you’re in the majority you cannot prevail when your fellow voters are complacent.

One last thought, I have read that those who seek representation by others and allow those chosen few to decide what there compensation should be will suffer. Power and greed have done more harm than any opioid has ever done.
