Royal Coach RV on Stine road in the city of Bakersfield has a 96 Fleetwood Elkhorn on it’s lot. There website shows pictures and lists the price of 4999. They have had it at least two months so maybe they are ready to deal with someone interested in getting into a truck camper but has limited cash.

As I recall on forums past, some Elkhorns had a structural weakness in their rear overhang area…This is only anecdotal, but something worth inspecting.

Buyer beware, I just posted this camper for members that are looking for something cheap. We all know about cheap and good. My first camper was a 2 grand Dreamer that quickly fell apart. I ended up rebuilding the walls, custom welding plate steel corners to provide strength to the structure and swapping out the manual jack assembly. I got a year or so out of it and sold it. What can I say, I was young, dumb and full of energy, now days I’m more lazy, skeptical and educated.

Even thou that first camper was a piece of crap, it taught me a little about independence. Having the ability to go most places in my 4×4 truck with that camper barely hanging on to the truck made me feel “free”. The saying “ignorance is bliss” comes to mind.

I have never forgot that feeling that old Dreamer gave me. Maybe that’s why my future will include a TC.
