ParticipantI had a wonderful 2013 Palomino Bronco 1250 but recently had an accident when my husband was using the truck – the pop up roof wasn’t locked down and it blew off on the freeway. Luckily, no one was hurt. What should I do now? I’ve researched getting it fixed, which will cost approx $5k with a new top and canvas, but there are some issues with the lift system that may not be fixable. And, I’m not sure that I will be comfortable with potential safety issues if I’m not sure of the quality of the repair, which may actually require driving to Wisconsin (I’m in Utah) for roof lift repairs.
Should I try to get it fixed, or just sell as-is and start over? Has anyone done this before? I’m not super handy so most of this would need to be hired out. I drive a F350 crew cab diesel, and it’s usually me alone with my two pre-teen boys, so safety is a big priority, and lightweight for dry camping on remote 4WD roads is key.
Thanks in advance!

ParticipantNADA retail base value is $5,550. Not sure what options you have, but it sounds like you would have to put almost as much into it as it is worth and there are plenty of Palomino truck campers on Craigslist. Use Search Tempest and you can search the entire US Craigslist. You might be able to come close to matching what you have for what it will cost to fix what you have.
I would move on, but that’s me.

ParticipantSell as a fixer project at what you can get and move on. If you get no takers, strip it and sell the parts and move on. If you don’t have the skills to fix it yourself the cost of having it done will be a money losing project.
