ParticipantWe own a 2014 CampLite 10′ hardside, which we really enjoy. The only problem is how to make a comfortable seat out of the front to back bench, across from the kitchen. I have a 2″ cushion on it now, thicker than the original, but have also tried; 1. extending out the bench to the interior to 20″ and putting a thicker cushion and back cushion in. 2. Made a wood slat curvy kinda futon thing for two. I have seen the upholstered, rail kinda lazyboy thing, which was interesting, but very pricey. Has anyone out there been able to think of a DIY to make the bench cushy and comfortable without armrests? We can try to extend the bench out into the center again, and we have a couple of 20″ plastic dog food “cubes” that we can use for feet and legs. But I was wondering how other people have dealt with this. Should I bite the bullet and find an upholsterer that can make a butt and back friendly set of cushions, non movable, or has someone out there a successful self made solution. Thanks for any help.

ParticipantWe got one of those blue closed cell camp pads from Walmart. We cut it the size of the cushions and then put them under the cushions. It was a big improvement, but we’re still looking for denser foam to make new cushions with.
I tried replacing the cushion foam with memory foam topper material, but it provided less support than the original foam. Doh!
I’ll be interested to see if you find a source for dense foam to re-stuff the cushions with. We looked at the craft stores, but the stuff they had was pretty expensive.

ParticipantCheck out an online source called The Foam Factory. (Google it) They will custom cut any size cushion you want, and they have numerous foam grades and densities available.

ParticipantAs John suggested go online to find a source for the foam. We have replaced the foam in multiple RVs over time and they cut to the exact size you want and will advise as to firmness. It does take a while to get, but in my estimation has always been well worth it.
