ParticipantBought our new Laredo with the detachable wrap designed to fit both short and long bed trucks. Removed it fits long beds (ours), in place short beds. So it’s on the truck and here we go to tie it down, Torklift on the rear and Happijacs on the front. Surprise! Torklift’s Fast guns are too short, way too short Luckily the dealer’s service bay said they run into this problem with Northstars frequently and had some chain and quick links so it all ended well. Just a heads up.
We ordered the detachable wrap not knowing if we would always have a long bed and also figured it would help resale when the time came.

ModeratorArd,
Their always seems to be a period of adjustment with a new device. I have come to expect it. It often centers around the combining of the two big parts: truck and camper. It is rare that everything fits just right out of the box. We bought our Lance used, and the ace in the hole for us was it came off the same model and year Dodge truck that it was going on, thus eliminating any fitment problem. The only difference were the stairs. Orig. owner’s truck was 2WD. Ours was a 3″ lifted 4WD so I had to add a rung to the stairs to compensate. You hear the most griping about goods that have a lot of customers, just because of shear numbers. It is good that you had an eye to flexibility in the future.

ParticipantYeah, you’re right. I just keep hoping to grab the brass ring! 🙂 In my opinion, when NorthStar says the same model works on a short and long bed, what they really mean is it is designed to fit a short bed, but can be adapted to a long bed. In this case the tie down placement is perfect for a short bed. 🙂
