ParticipantWhat do you think about putting a camper on a Silverado 2500 HD with a six inch lift? Reasonable or probably unsafe? What about a popup camper? Anyone done it?
Thanks!!

ParticipantAs long as it’s not too heavy. Any soft side pop-up. Maybe even a hard side with no slide out.

KeymasterWith a lift that high, I’d go with a pop-up only. The center of gravity heightwise for a hard-side would be too high for my liking.

ModeratorI think Whazoo has a 6″ lift, which doesn’t look or operate too badly since Chevy has the lowest bed height to start with. The thing I would worry about is; what kind of lift is it? If it’s a cheapy lift without longer arms, the downward flex is at a minimium. I’ll have to agree that a pop up is probably the wisest answer for you.

Participanti have a 10″ lift on my crewcab and have no probs hauling around our hard side camper and quad trailer.
i never notice it back there, but you do have to keep an eye open for overpasses, power lines and low flying aircraft…. - June 5, 2018 at 21:12 #22183

ModeratorDieseldawg,
It’s always a trade off between clearance and over all height. I’m writing this from a remote camp on the south face of Lassen National Volcanic Park. I have a 3″ lift which puts the overall height at 10 feet, 4 inches. Just today, I noticed a tree branch hanging on the back roof rack that was accumulated on a jeep trail we traveled today. Your rig being that tall would be out of the picture on the trails we’ve trod this week.

height has never really been an issue, we find width is more of a thing.
as we live in BC, home of the Rocky mountains, the Cascade mts, the Selkirk mts etc, we travel thru some pretty incredibly ruff country. we have taken our rig where only modified toyotas and jeeps travel…in fact fixing the exhaust right now, ripped out a tailpipe climbing over the rocks in my avtar pic…
and when we can’t get the truck in there, we unload the quads and keep going…lol
wish i could figure out the pic uploading on this forum…i changed my av pic, that’s my ’85 K30 crew and Travel-Mate camper - September 21, 2018 at 14:12 #26080
