ParticipantI started following this site several years ago when owning a truck camper seemed like a long way away. After all the research and saving money I finally own a truck camper. It is a 2019 Capri Maverick. I told Capri I was planning to pick it up late Monday afternoon or early Tuesday morning however Sunday night Vail Pass was closed due to winter weather. Late Monday morning the pass was opened up and all was clear so I took off. I arrived on Tuesday afternoon and picked up my camper and am currently traveling east to visit family. The one thing I worried about was that my truck wouldn’t be able to handle the camper but it has handled it well. The only problem has been when I am on a highway where the surface is that sandy color I noticed the truck would rock a little back and forth. I also want to add an inverter and a solar panel but that is a little bit down the road.

ParticipantI’ll toss this out at the risk of raising controversy. I would discourage you from buying or planning to buy anything until you use your camper enough to establish you actual needs. Usage patterns vary widely and much of what I read in the forums would be useless for the way we use our camper here in Tennessee.
And despite impressions which might be gained from multiple comments on TC forums regarding battery discharge, batteries do not instantly die when discharged below 12-volts. I am not saying it is wise to intentionally discharge batteries to very low voltages. Yes, they will last longer if kept charged, but it is not below 12-volts and they’re gone.
Other than in cold weather camping when the furnace is engaged, I think you would be amazed how well we do on just our two AGMs and even though we might bring our genny along, we almost never use it and never use it when folks near us are tent campers or do not have a genny (just trying to courteous there). 🙂
