ParticipantGood 3rd party Truck Camper insurance?
Hi all – I had initially had good insurance coverage on our new 2020 Hallmark fiberglass pop-up Truck Camper – then Progressive decided that unless we had our auto insurance with Progressive, they would not insure our Truck camper, as it is too valuable.
Not happy with Progressive! (I do not want to shift my auto insurance to them)
So currently inquiring if our current auto insurer will write the insurance for our Hallmark….. and asking what the exclusions are…
* * * But can anyone recommend good 3rd party RV insurance company? The Hallmark is quite valuable, of course. * * *
We got the Progressive thru Good Sam – the nice thing about the insurance (that is about to be cancelled by Progressive) was that it was *replacement value* for the first 5 years in case of a write off, then it was *price paid* (for the Hallmark) for years 6 and on. That is very good coverage, and I’d like to try to get similar coverage.
In other words, I dont want depreciated coverage, as in a total loss we’d get screwed, especially year 6 and on. 🙁
Thanks

InactiveOur primary insurance is through USAA. Our truck camper insurance they don’t handle but have an affiliate program with Foremost. NO idea what your rates, etc. would be and we fortunately have not needed to use our insurance, but their rates seem reasonable.

ParticipantI have State Farm for everything. I did add the camper onto my Truck Policy as an addition. It actually didn’t cost me any additional but they want to know what they are getting into and the value. I told them my 4WC was 50K and they insured it. I also insured the PCOR Flatbed that the camper was on on the same policy. I had an accident and lost it all. State Farm paid out just about everything minus depreciation. The camper was 3 months old so almost got it all out of that!
The idea is not to beat around the bush and tell your broker you put a shell on your truck. you need to be specific and tell them the value of the camper. The broker won’t know what your talking about so be specific. Again…The addition of my 50K camper and 12K PCOR flatbed didn’t raise my cost of insurance. AND i do have everything bundled with State Farm. Auto, Life, Home and an Umbrella policy.
