Ford Tailgate Camera Relocation

Hi All;

Newbie with a new F250 with the 360 camera system. Works great except when the tailgate is removed. Has anyone relocated the camera to the bumper to overcome this? I’m looking at the Rostra kit. Anyone used one of them? How much risk is there in removing the camera from the tailgate?

I used a Rostra kit on my 2021 Ram 3500 with 360 surround view. No problems whatsoever.
I have my tailgate removed and camera is relocated/mounted on rear door of camper at same height as original camera.
I did not remove the camera from my tailgate, but purchased a new one online.
Shouldn’t be a problem removing yours. I left mine in the tailgate for when I want to drop camper and put tailgate back on.

I went with the kit from Camera Source. Kinda pricey, but plug and play. It came with a surface mount camera that I mounted on the camper. The camera that came with my kit is not as good as the one in the tailgate, especially in low light. I would consider getting the best camera they offer. Note that my truck does not have the 360 degree camera system. Looks like that kit is even more $$.

I think if you are handy and can get the proper connector, you could make one very cheap.
