We just picked-up our new truck camper yesterday. We decided on the Eagle Cap 1165. I am thankful for the helpful replies to a couple questions I have received on this forum. I did end up getting and very happy I did, the Forklift tie downs (steel) and the Fastguns. We took the scenic route home on different roads and was mostly pleased with the way my truck handled the TC.

You can’t upload directly to this forum, you have to upload your photos first to a photo hosting service, then link it back here.

Still no luck. I have posted photos to other forums from Photo Bucket before without an issue. When I add the link it shows the address, but when I hit submit the box goes blank and nothing is posted.

Mike, I believe I figured it out. I have been using Photobucket for a few years and it appears they no longer allow photo sharing unless you buy their membership plan, so the link I thought I was posting obviously did not work. I have no plans to pay for an upgrade, so I guess no photos unless someone knows of still free photo site.

We wanted slide in truck camper, hopefully we get to find this year. Deciding between old Northstar or Northwood, perhaps a new Lance995.

Looks great Bruce, by the look of the date the rig should be well broken in by now. Hopefully that Dodge is a two wheel drive and you have no plans to pull any trailers.

My interest with campers started about 3 to 4 years ago. I was immediately draw to the 2 and 3 slide units offered by Eagle Cap, Host, Lance and AF. Unfortunately the truck I bought is unsuitable for multi slide campers. I am still trying to decide on what direction I should go in.

On a different note, my advise to Krystal, go with the Northstar.

Freespool – go big or stay home. And remember that scene in Jaws:

“You’re gonna need a bigger truck.”

It’s good to be a n00b - so I can aspire to be just stoopid.

Mick I really do share your opinion but that damn liability word has been a real buzz kill. I still feel so stupid for not spending more time learning about the insufficient payloads offered by non commercial trucks. Who would of thought that a new dually that weighs 8K empty, has nearly 400HP and can legally pull 22500 could not carry at least 6K. Well I certainly did not and I have been paying for that mistake since the day I drove home. The best I can do is a Northstar STC or a 11 foot Granite and I could over load my truck with either unit if I hauled what I normally haul. Pulling a trailer with tongue weight is a sure kill shot for my truck

I have said before and I will say again, either buy a 1 ton two wheel drive Gasser or buy a 550 if you are going to buy anything bigger than a 9 foot camper, period.

Don, that is indeed an amazing number providing we are comparing like for like. My 2016 GMC is the diesel, 4×4, crew version built on a base platform and then optioned with just a few essentials. The number on the door jamb is only 4766, that’s 2874 less payload. In other words bring on any truck camper or if you prefer go ahead an order that 44 foot toy hauler from New Horizon.

The reason I did not even look at a Ford was my history with Ford. Three trucks and one car to date and they were all piles of garbage. I understand things can change but 4 times burnt 5th time shy for me.

I love my GMC even with it’s wimpy payload numbers. The performance and reliability thus far is a 10 and I have never been able to say that about any truck I have owned. So with that said my current truck will remain with me as I approach retirement. I will just have to settle with what I carry or pull.

On Trucks: Growing up on a ranch here in Texas we had nothing but Chevy and in fact if you owned a Ford you were nothing but a sharecropper, Ranchers did not own Fords and Chevy outsold Ford 2:1 in Tex.

I headed out to chase windmills around the world and around the world I did. But we always come back to our roots so I came home to S Tex after many years of doing and seeing. I knew I needed a truck and as a good engineer, I also knew there was a new Sheriff in town…FORD. Being Ford adverse, having never owned one. The engineer in me said give them ALL a fair and equal evaluation. So I went in with one marker to be met: Ford KING RANCH Interior.

Stop 1) Yes you can help me, I am looking for a 3500 series truck with a nice interior like the Ford King Ranch. Sorry, Sir, you need to go over to Fleet Truck sales if you want a 3500, maybe they can help. Truck Fleet sales) Sir we have very little that competes at that level< we can order you a 3500 with an upgraded interior but nothing in the Chevy or GMC line competes with that King Ranch interior, but we are working on it.

Stop 2) Dodge Ram: Pro, diesel engine, Con, Dodge Ram, poor quality, shoddy cheap interior, rode in a tank that was quieter.

Last Stop Ford) F 350 4×4 King Ranch albeit I bought a Lariat because they did not have a KR in stock like I wanted.

Results: F 350 CC LB diesel: ’09, ’11, ’15, ’17, ’19. Near zero issues, what few issues were minor: Steering stabilizer replaced, drivers side mirror stopped extending, replaced), no engine or transmission issues at all.

Still not a Ford man, Ford Truck man yes, but until they start making Corvettes and Jeeps then I will stay with Chevy and Jeep.

Oh boy, another Ford versus Chevy?

Sounds like you would love it, but no, its not Ford Vs Chevy.

      In my Stable:

      3 Jeeps, 55, ’03, ’06, ’16
      2 John Deere’s
1 Caddy ’17 (for the wife’s business) Escalade Ext long to haul her stuff
      1 Ford ’19 F 350 CC, LB, King Ranch
Corvette sold, waiting on the mid-engine model

Have NEVER owned a sedan in my life nor has my wife, so maybe it’s sedans Vs everything else IMO. In fact, it looks like people have finally woke up to the reality that a sedan is a worthless piece of junk. Going to a real rarity real soon. The new world is SUV’s and Trucks

      Actually no.

My thought is preferences are just preferences. No right or wrong, best or worst. Just preferences. Same thing with truck campers.

I suspect like you, I just buy what I want and encourages others to do the same. 🙂
