ParticipantAnyone familiar with the Happyjac Qwik Load turnbuckles which appears to be a clone of Torklift’s Fast Guns. The Happyjac is considerably less expensive than the Fast Guns. Turnbuckles are next on my list for equipment to make our truck ready for purchase of a TC and I do not paying the much higher price if the quality is that much better, but if only marginally so or of the same quality, obviously I would appreciate the savings. Thanks.

ModeratorBruce, I have no experience with either, but aren’t tie downs model specific? I’ve noticed that different models have different angles and lengths between attachment points. My Happyjac screw tie downs came with the camper lo those many moons ago and I bought the whole set up used from a guy who had the same Dodge truck bed so fitment was easy.

ParticipantJefe, Thank you. It sounds like you are correct. I spoke with a vendor who sells both brands. Apparently where as the Torklift turnbuckles are attached to the frame mounted tie downs (I just installed) the Happijac’s in the front are attached at the bed and in the rear to the bumper. So Fastguns for me as I planned.

InactiveI installed a set of the Torquelift Derringers. You don’t gain much by using them as each time you put the camper in or out of the truck, you still have to adjust the turnbuckles a little bit, as the camper might move side to side or not exactly square in the truckbed by just a little. It was actually more work since you had to engage and disengage them each time. While its a good idea to have these fast acting tiedowns, the truth in execution lacks a bit.

ParticipantWe have the Happijac Quik loads and use them on Torklift frame mounted tie downs. I extended the Quikloads by buying 1/2″ x 13 all thread and a coupler and cutting the all thread to length. It took a little trial and error to get the right length. They seem to work OK. If you’re on a rough road and the camper moves around, they become loose or a little overly tight. I need to cut some better side spacers to keep the camper from shifting side to side.
