My dream was to be able to trow my little aluminum boat behind me new F150 Diesel with a camper on it. I looked at the lance 650 which I”d buy today if I could haul it but it just seems like too much. My GVWR is 7050 on the 2018 F-150 Diesel and the high end weight figure according to the sticker/vin is 4937. So that leaves me 2137. I weigh 230 and throw in a friend and I’m down to 1637. That seems to put the Lance 650 out of the question.

What’s the best way to start looking for alternatives — is there an central resource that has a lot of comparisons showing a realistic wet weight of various campers? Thanks so much everyone. Jim

If you are okay with a pop-up truck camper you likely can hit your goal. Might want to check out Truck Camper magazine (online and free), Truck Camper Adventure, or Wander The West. Lots of us (maybe most) are running pop-ups on our trucks on Wander the West. Good information on all as well as other truck camper sites.

Yeah, a hard side probably won’t work for you, so you’ll have to go with a pop-up. But it sounds like you want a wet bath. There aren’t many pop-ups in that weight range that has one. Bundutec just came out with a brand new camper, the Wild, that has a nice layout with a wetbath. Phoenix Campers just came out with one as well called the Mini Max.
