ParticipantF-350 360 degree camera system question (custom ordered 2020)
I’m about to custom order a 2020 Lariat F350 – crew cab, 8’ bed.
We will *never* tow. We hate towing. We also keep our vehicles for a really long time, so resale isn’t really an issue.
There will always be a 9.5’ pop up truck camper in the bed. Tailgate will be permanently removed. Camper will hang out 18” approx. So do I want to spend the $$$ to get the 360 camera system?
How useful is it?
Or will just using my mirrors + a backup camera be enough?
I’ll be driving alone quite a bit, so without a person who could hop out and be a spotter.I am on the fence about adding the $710 ULTIMATE TRAILER TOW CAMERA SYSTEM to get the 360 degree camera system.
I have a couple of options:
OPTION A) (works only as a backup camera)
I could get a “tailgate” relocate external camera, and mount it low down on the rear of the camper, and plug it into the plug where the tailgate camera was plugged. No soldering. Here is an example camera. NOTE – this camera is NOT compatible with 360 camera system.
OPTION B) is to get the $710 ULTIMATE TRAILER TOW CAMERA SYSTEM to get the 360 degree camera system….
then add the $415 Camera Source (ROSTRA)
“2017+ Super Duty W/ 360 View-Relocation Kit -Camera Included” (plug and play)Thoughts?
Thanks!

KeymasterShort answer…no. It’s a waste of money IMHO. We have one and NEVER use it.

Participantright but you are a pro Mike, and I’m a rookie.
interestingly enough you are one of the very few who share your opinion… about 9/10 people love the 360 cameras and highly recommend it.
It is nice to have the option. 🙂

ParticipantColor me stupid but will the 360 work with the tailgate off and a camper on?
I assume the BLISS won’t either. It’s good to be a n00b - so I can aspire to be just stoopid.

ParticipantI put a camper on my truck and the Ram Uconnect 360 view is useful to me, even without the tailgate. The reason is the virtual satellite view you get. The sides and front show up as if you are looking from above and it gives you clearance views that the mirrors can’t fully capture alone. It helps confirm what I might or might not be seeing in the mirrors.
What I haven’t figured out yet, and hope to soon, is to find a way to make an aftermarket camera show up in place of the tailgate when it is off.

I assume the BLISS won’t either.i am told the tailgate camera can be located on the rear bumper of the camper, and simply plugged back in. No soldering. May need an extension cable. 3rd party.

ParticipantJohn, thank you. I have been searching for someone who sells a camera that I can mount to my camper when the tailgate is off. You have the link for CameraSource.com and sure enough, they have a camera for my 2019 Ram. I’ve been futzing with an aftermarket camera with no luck. I’m so excited to you have pointed me in the right direction. I’ll have to post how well it works when I get it next week.

ParticipantI ordered what turns out to be the wrong camera for my truck. Camera Source has been very good at helping me out, but unfortunately, the Ram 360 camera on my truck is too new and they can’t get a part that works yet. I’ll have to wait for the right camera to be made available.
