I’ve been following TCA for awhile and love the information. We have owned a 2006 Northstar 850SC popup for five years, and it has served us well–including a 5 month trip through Mexico and Central America a few years ago and several extended trips to Canada and to Baja. We’ve visited the Northstar factory and love the quality of construction. We have decided that a hardsided camper would better fit our needs now though, so I would appreciate any feedback from people who have a hardside Northstar. I’m especially interested in the Laredo and the Arrow U. I’ve read your review of the Laredo, Mike, and believe it would be a great choice for us, but I like the larger refrigerator in the Arrow (I have medications that need to be kept cool) and we plan to live in the camper for over half the year. We don’t do much off-roading, but we do travel on some very rough roads–if you’ve ever driven in Baja off the main route you’ll know what I mean. So I’m wondering how the larger profile of the Arrow would handle compared to the Laredo. We also mostly boondock and spend several months in the winter off the grid in Baja. By the way, we plan to upsize our truck to a one ton to handle the extra weight of the hardsided camper, so any suggestions about matching the truck and camper are appreciated. We don’t plan to buy anything until spring. We want to carefully consider our choices when making this big of decision. Thanks for sharing any advice or experiences on this subject.

You can’t go wrong with either camper. They’re both nice, but if I was going to buy again I’d go with a camper through BundetecUSA. Same build quality (Rory Willet builds his campers the same way as Northstar) but you can get it customized with all of the things you really want.

So if you were going to customize yours, Mike, what would you do differently than what you have now on your Laredo? The BundetecUSA website is hard to see what a hard-sided camper design would look like and the floor plan options. It looks like they specialize in lightweight pop ups and campers built for over landing, whereas we want more room to live in it most of the year. I can see that they build high quality campers and I know that Rory was with Northstar until a few years ago so there would be similar build philosophies.
