ParticipantFor those of you interested in a new Chevy or GMC, the 2020 models might just be what your looking for. I recently heard the new fully loaded HD Chevy will break the 100 grand threshold. I have already read Ford will have a similar model with a 6 figure price tag.
Now for the good news, my monthly GMC magazine just arrived and the new models are shown and briefly described. The diesel will now be rated at 445HP and 910 torque. There will be a close ratio Allison 10 speed backing up the mighty Duramax. Towing will increase to 35,500 and the new GCWR will be 43500. There are several other changes you can read about on your own if your in the market. The last change I will mention is the seat height, thankfully it will increase in height.
Unfortunately, there is no information on payload. Lets hope that someone is reading my letters over at the R&D center and has addressed the woefully insufficient payload ratings of past models.

ParticipantI had a little time this morning so I took a look at the GMC web site for 2020’s. The only number that has not changed for there DRW 3500 model when it comes to towing is the conventional hitch capacity that stays at 20K. Everything has gone up dramatically. The number shown for payload starts at 6532 for a regular cab, double cabs show 6059 and the way most of us buy DRW 3500 trucks shows 5892 with a crew configuration. Obviously options will play a big role in final payload numbers.
I bet my truck in a 2020 version would have an additional 7 to 800 pounds of payload, maybe more. With these numbers I could legally pull the 44′ toy box from Hew Horizon or a STC along with a custom built aluminum 28′ toy box trailer. Neither of these choices are legal with my current truck.
They say haste makes waste and I could not agree more. My desire to start building my retirement rig in 2016 instead of 2020 could easily cost me 15-20 grand. I truly hope those of you are who reading this post and others like it are learning what not to do.

ParticipantWaiting to buy a ‘20 F450 cause I believe that 10 speed developed with GM
will be a winner. Hope I’m not an unhappy beta tester! ?It’s good to be a n00b - so I can aspire to be just stoopid.

ParticipantNot sure I understand. I thought F meant Ford but you reference the new GM 10 speed. What truck are you going to buy? Make sure if your looking at an F450 Ford it will do the job with room to spare. The 550 may suit your needs better. Buy more than you need so you won’t be stuck like me. There is a wright up in TCM about some of the changes the GM truck will offer, take note of the changes in the bed configuration and follow there advise if you choose the GMC.

ParticipantThe 10 speed was developed jointly as I understand it.
