Best *mid priced* Kinetic Recovery Rope?

      Hi all

We like to go camping 4 seasons, and off the beaten path. Want to carry a 30 foot *mid priced* Kinetic Recovery Rope, just in case we get stuck, or come across someone who needs help.

7,000 lb 4×4 truck and about 3,000 lb (wet/loaded) truck camper, so about 10,000 lb total.

My instinct is to go for a mid priced Kinetic Recovery Rope – so nothing crappy that will let me down, but not super high end.

A number of people have suggested Yankum Ropes as a good choice.

Looking around the internets I don’t see any unbiased reviews. Any thoughts on what I should buy?

This is the specific 1” ($214) Yankum they recommended, based on my rig.

      thanks

ps. this is a good, related article, and it explains why I do not want to buy a tow strap, even if it is called something else on the package.

That article explains why you don’t want to buy a POLYESTER (non-stretch) strap, nor do you want a strap with metal hooks on it.

It is entirely possible to find good, stretchable nylon snatch straps without hooks.

Take a look at the snatch straps from ARB.

      https://arbusa.com/recovery/recovery-straps-and-accessories/

The prices seem very moderate compared to, say, an equivalent recovery rope from Bubba Rope.

At the same time, ARB is definitely not cheap junk that will let you down when you need it.

thanks much John – those look cool, and suitable, and more cost effective. 🙂

I have reached out to ARB – as my rig (pickup truck plus truck camper ALWAYS on the back of truck) is about 10,000 lbs wet (loaded)

To ask them what ARB SNATCH STRAP is most suitable for recovery? the “medium” one ARB SNATCH STRAP – 24,000 LBS minimum breaking strength – PART NO ARB710LB

      or the “strongest” one?

ARB SNATCH STRAP – 33,000 LBS minimum breaking strength – PART NO ARB715LB

      cheers

Update – I now realize that the ARB Snatch Strap can stretch about 10%

and the Yankum kinetic recovery rope can stretch up to 30% at maximum.

and other research that I have done indicates that there is a reason that some people prefer Kinetic ropes such as the Yankum… as it can absorb more energy and do a bigger, smoother recovery.

so i now know the ARB Snatch Strap isn’t the same tool as the Yankum, or similar.

I’m not sure where you got the 10% figure from. This Australian site tested a number of snatch straps – no ropes, alas – to destruction and found the ARB was giving them an average stretch of 23.5%. And was consistently breaking at well above their rated strength, which not every tested strap did.

If you want to see the Yankum ropes in action, watch any video by this Youtuber

      Matts Off Road Recovery

Warning, you will quickly become addicted to watching these videos. In the description box, he lists the specific Yankum rope he uses and recommends.

He does maintain the ropes, cleaning and inspecting them after each use, but after seeing these videos, I would not buy anything else.

Here is a recent video of his recovery of a 3500 SRW Chev Duramax with a Lance camper on the back.

In fact, one of the comments says “I feel like I’m watching a commercial for Yankum Rope every time I watch one of these videos now.”
