With an older camper, I felt the same way. I had 2 pieces of 3/4″ with 2 barn door hinges joining one side of the pieces with a chain between the upside down V shape to keep the distance between the wood even and restrained. 4 of them weighed about 40 lbs. and were fairly compact with the 2 pieces folded together. The wider the wood, the less right to left wiggle with the camper on them.
