For Sale: 2016 Northstar Arrow U Truck Camper ($23,500)

We’re selling our 2016 Northstar Arrow U truck camper. The camper is designed for 3/4-ton or larger short-bed trucks. We purchased the camper from the first owner in 2019 who originally acquired it from A&M Services in Kittrell, North Carolina. It’s been a faithful companion for our family and we’ve enjoyed a number of great trips with it. You simply can’t go camping often enough, but we’re grateful for the many experiences and memories made with our Northstar.

From our experience with the Arrow U, Northstar’s reputation for building high-quality, reliable and well-insulated four-season campers is well earned. Despite the solid construction, the camper is not portly and our 1997 F250 never felt unduly burdened by the 3,000 pounds of camper, gear, water, etc. We never did a scientific back-to-back weighing, but based on separate trips over the scales, Northstar’s sticker weight of 2,750 sounds accurate.

The equipment on ours lines up with current Arrow U standard features along with the following options and additions:

  • Coleman Mack roof air conditioner
  • Seitz/Dometic Heki vent in cabover
  • Large Seitz/Dometic dual-pane acrylic insulated windows
  • Happijack electric four-corner jacks with remote
  • Two deep cycle RV batteries
  • One 200 watt solar panel and Victron bluetooth-enabled MPPT charge controller
  • Custom fold-up aluminum rear deck with running/brake lights, fully removable
  • Fan-tastic Vent with removable cover/shroud, can be left open in rain
  • Swagman roof rack cross-bars
  • One 5-inch cleaning port in freshwater tank (we were ahead of the times with this one)
  • Upgraded lower bunk insert board
  • Custom lightweight shelving in cabinets

We love the spacious feel of this floor plan when compared with other truck campers that have bathrooms or cabinetry midships. It never felt cramped, even with three little ones in tow, yet still maintains a small enough footprint to explore places that are off-limits to larger RVs. The cassette toilet is also a great feature and allowed us to dump it at so many more places like rest areas and pit toilets.

There are many thoughtful features and amenities throughout the camper. USB charging, 12 volt and 120 volt outlets are placed in convenient locations. The Lagun table is fantastic to set up as a desk or dining area. LED lighting is everywhere—both interior and exterior—and there are lots of storage compartments maximizing space. We never could fill it up! The rear wrap has a vented exterior compartment with a feed-in receptacle for a 2,000 watt inverter generator to run the AC while not plugged in. We never used it, but it was nice to have; in fact, we only used the AC and microwave a handful of times. Most of our time was spent away from developed campgrounds.

The Northstar Arrow U has been well-maintained. We’ve conditioned the roof multiple times each season and kept it covered at our property when not in use. It shows well, but has a few light scuffs on the sides from branches along narrow forest roads. Known flaws are the kitchen countertop, this is one rare weak spot in the design: the unsealed MDF attracts moisture, invariably water spread by little helpers working around the sink has caused the MDF to swell. If we were keeping it, I’d get a few more seasons of use out of it before replacing with Corian or a laminated plywood counter. Additionally, there’s some surface rust on interior surfaces (speaker grates, hinges, vent hood etc.) from salty beach air.

We’ve covered a lot of ground in this camper, starting with a longer trip through the Northeast and several outings to the Outer Banks and National Forests in NC and VA. It really was the perfect boondocking setup for us! We’re sad to see it go, but hope that its future owner will get many more years of enjoyment out of it.
