DragonFly Energy, manufacturer of the superb Battle Born lithium battery, acquired Wakespeed, the brand behind the excellent WS500 Advanced Alternator Regulator, in early 2022. As part of the acquisition, DragonFly Energy launched a new website, branding, and configuration app to support the popular regulator. The newly refreshed Wakespeed products can be seen at the Battle Born Batteries booth during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Oct. 26 – 30 at booth C65.
The Wakespeed WS500 Advanced Alternator Regulator supports alternator-based DC-to-DC battery charging, providing a safer and more efficient charge for your boat and rig. The rebranding aims to reveal a modern look that represents the quality and reliability of not just the WS500, but of Dragonfly Energy’s full line of Battle Born LiFePO4 products and additional components.
The WS500 supports voltages of all types, including 12, 24, and 48 volts, and is compatible with both lead-acid and lithium batteries. It’s capable of driving the alternator output based on a combination of three criteria: voltage, current, and temperature goals/limits, making it possible to configure charging to specific battery manufacturer recommendations. This provides an extra layer of protection for both your alternator and your camper’s battery system.
- Voltage: Yes – Via sense wires included in wiring harness.
- Current: Yes – Via amp shunt. Can be calibrated to support most shunts. Default is 500 amps/50 milli-volts.
- Temperature: Yes – Via alternator and battery temperature sensors. Real-time variable charging output based on ambient alternator and battery temperature. Battery Temperature and/or current may optionally be supplied via CAN when used with suitable BMS.
“The inclusion of the Wakespeed products into our inventory this year has been phenomenal,” Dr. Denis Phares, Dragonfly Energy CEO, said. “We’re able to offer a quality product for our customers that works seamlessly with our existing product line. The goal of the rebrand is to demonstrate to our customers and OEM partners that these products are now part of the Dragonfly Energy umbrella and therefore they can expect the same level of excellence and customer satisfaction as they would from any of our existing line of lithium-ion batteries and other products.”
As part of the Wakespeed brand transitioning to Dragonfly Energy, the WS500 and additional Wakespeed accessory offerings are backed by Dragonfly Energy’s in-house, support and customer service, as well as high-end educational materials including training videos, guides, and more.
The new Wakespeed Configuration Utility App is also now available, allowing users to not only update firmware but also monitor and configure the WS500 Alternator Regulator within the power system. The Wakespeed Configuration Utility App is available on Android and iPhone iOS platforms and will also be on display with an interactive interface at the boat show.
Those interested in checking out these products and learning more about Wakespeed products are encouraged to stop by Booth C65 at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show to get hands on the products, learn about intelligent engine-based charge control, ask questions and more.

It’s good to see the guys at Battleborn saw the need for this product and are working to improve it. Also hat tip to Battle born for being one of the companies that have really made lithium into a doable proposition for many DIY people. 3-4 years ago lithium was either a hugely expensive affair or basically a chemistry experiment, Battle born a and few other really helped change that.
I agree. The company produces a first-rate product and is one of the few lithium companies that we endorse.
