Our friends at Adventurer Manufacturing revealed a new truck camper prototype at the 2025 Overland Expo West called the 65RB. Designed for short-bed, half-ton pickup trucks, the camper is expected to weigh around 1,600 pounds when development is complete. Unlike the company’s popular Scout Olympic, which is made for short-bed, half-ton trucks as well, the 65RB will be a traditional slide-in truck camper with cabinets and dedicated appliances and facilities. To learn more about this exciting, new prototype, we spoke with Kent Hicks of the Adventurer Manufacturing sales team.
Hi Kent. This is exciting news. What are you calling the new prototype?
Kent Hicks: We are calling it the Adventurer 65RB, the RB stands for rear bath.
What is the weight expected to be when development of the Adventurer 65RB is complete?

Kent Hicks: We’re hoping to get it just below 1,600 pounds. The prototype, with the features and options here, will be about 1,700 pounds.
What features does the Adventurer 65RB prototype have?
Kent Hicks: The prototype features the Truma Combi water-heater furnace as well as 600 watts of solar. It also features the new Adventure Gear Locker, a heated aluminum locker that houses a 2.5-gallon cassette toilet. The Truma Combi is ducted into this locker. We call it a locker because the space is large enough to hang gear and wet clothes, things like that. The camper also features a removable jack option that allows you to save on some weight and a Carefree rear awning option as well. It has full-on panoramic windows, including a Eurovision window that opens up from the inside and comes with a screen and a bottom sunlight shade.

How large is the battery and solar power system?
Kent Hicks: We’re using the Expion360 132 amp hour lithium battery. The battery compartment is large enough to house two 132 amp hour batteries. The solar power system will come standard with 200 watts, but you can add two more solar panels for a total of 600 watts.
Why design a camper like the Adventurer 65RB when your company already produces the popular Scout Olympic?
Kent Hicks: The Adventurer 65RB is going to be more of a traditional truck camper. It will feature more cabinetry with traditional cabinet doors. It also features a dedicated bathroom space plus the ability to sleep a lot more people in there. It has a rollover couch, a bunk option, and a full queen-side bed up top. It also features a mounted refrigerator, a cassette toilet, a mounted cooktop, a 20 gallon fresh water holding tank, and a full bathroom as opposed to the Scout Olympic that doesn’t offer any of those things.

When will the Adventurer 65RB be sold on dealer lots?
Kent Hicks: We’re hoping to have it ready by this fall for customers. This is just the prototype, but we’re hoping to have it ready in the next couple of months to hopefully get into production by then.
What is the floor length of the Adventurer 65RB?
Kent Hicks: The floor length is going to be about 92 inches, so it’s going to be a true 6.5-foot bed model made for short-bed pickup trucks.
You mentioned earlier that the jacks will be removable. How will you do that with the HappiJac’s featured here on the prototype?
Kent Hicks: We have the fixed HappiJac system here, but we are going to be switching to another removable system similar to the one featured on our Scout models.
What else is unique about the Adventurer 65RB?
Kent Hicks: So we’ve actually changed the roof design as well. It actually rounds to a crown on top, and then it drops back down in the back again. So you don’t have to worry about any type of water pooling on the roof. Everything’s going to drain off properly. When it comes to cleaning, it’s going to allow you to actually get up there and see the whole roof without having any blind spots.

What options are going to be offered? Can customers get a DC air conditioner?
Kent Hicks: Yes, we will be offering a DC air conditioner as well as the Truma Combi and a bunk option. We also have a second lithium battery option, and then obviously the solar power upgrades that I mentioned earlier.
Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about the Adventurer 65RB?
Kent Hicks: The Adventurer 65RB is a true half-ton model. It will fit on all half-tons like the Ford F-150. Right now, we currently have it on a Toyota Tundra. It’s made for short-bed trucks, but it will also fit on long-beds models too.
We didn’t know anything about this camper until now. How long have you been working on the 65RB prototype?
Kent Hicks: We’ve been secretly working on this for a couple of years now, just trying to make sure everything fits right, everything weight-wise, all that. Our team just finished the prototype last week. It’s totally fresh and brand-new.
What was the driver for designing this new camper? Who was asking for it?
Kent Hicks: Our dealers. We build for our dealers. That’s our ethos. They’ve been asking for this type of camper in a 6.5-foot, half-ton option for years.
