Breaking: Bowen Customs Debuts Kitchen Slide-Out Camper Option at Overland Expo West

Bowen Customs, the leading manufacturer of premium camper beds, debuted its new kitchen slide-out option at the 2026 Overland Expo West. A prototype of the option was mounted on Chivas Sotelo’s truck camper rig consisting of a Ford F-350 outfitted with a Bowen Customs camper bed with a Four Wheel Camper Flatbed Hawk+ mounted on top.

The brand-new option is the brain child of Bowen Customs founder and CEO, Brent Bowen. The idea was hatched years ago but due to booming business he was unable to take it to the next step.

“We are excited to finally be able to offer this option to our customers,” he said. “This product has been in my mind since I started the company, but I’ve always been busy with beds and haven’t had a chance to really get to it. We finally had time to get it into the engineering queue and luckily we got it unveiled here at the Overland Expo on Chivas’s rig. I feel like it’s going to be a great option for a lot of customers in this market.”

When fully extended, the new kitchen slide-out is massive. It measures an eye-popping 120 inches long, yet collapses into a single length of 60 inches, short enough to fit in any Bowen Customs garage. Two different widths are being offered by the company—28 inches and 18 inches—with the 28-inch version revealed at the show. Brent tells us that the 18-inch-wide version will have the same features as the 28-inch version, but will come in a slightly tighter package.

As is the case with most prototypes, the kitchen prototype shown by Bowen Customs at the show came with everything including the kitchen sink.

“The option is great,” Brent said. “You get a cooktop and a pantry on the 60-inch section closest to the cab. The pantry provides basic storage for things like utensils. The cooktop we provide is based upon the customer’s needs. Chivas ordered his with an induction cooktop that’ll plug into his power system. On the secondary slide-out portion, we provide a lift-top prep table that offers an additional surface for meal prep. The lower portion has a collapsible sink and faucet with an additional prep space. In Chivas’ case we added a Dometic water system where you can have running water in your sink next to your prep surface and condiment table.”

Brent tells us that the standard slide-out kitchen comes WITHOUT a cooktop. It will have a pantry and a location provision for a cooktop as well as a lift table and a kitchen sink with faucet.  The standard offering lists for $6,000. Options, such as a propane or induction cooktop, will add to the price.

The new kitchen slide-out option is capable of supporting a lot of weight. According to Brent, the unit features a collapsible support leg, providing additional support for the 120-inch-long slide-out. The slide-out is capable of supporting a whopping 500 pounds.

The wonderful thing about this option is that it can be ordered either from the factory or can be retrofitted into an existing Bowen Customs garage. The installation, Brent explains, is actually quite simple.

“We’ve designed it to slide into any existing garage with six bolts into the floor. Cooktop installs will be more complex, of course, but we’ve designed it to retrofit into any garage, and honestly, the way the kitchen is packaged, it could be shipped to a customer and mounted in a standard truck bed if they wanted. It’s a very simple design,” he said.
