Canadian-based Armorlite Technologies Inc. will unveil its new off-road truck camper, the EXP-1, this weekend at the 2018 Overland Expo in Flagstaff, Arizona.
According to the press release, the EXP-1 was developed with a unique approach based on years of real-world testing in the Canadian oilfields under extreme weather and road conditions. “The materials chosen have proven their benefits in many challenging industries,” explained Jason Levesque, the company’s founder, “so we wanted to bring them to markets where moisture, weight, and durability have been problematic.”
The EXP-1 features an aluminum “exobody” construction with a true minimalist approach to the overall design. The exterior of this short-bed truck camper is comprised of stressed aluminum skin panels joined with the company’s custom aluminum extrusions. This method of construction allows the unit to flex in off-road conditions and keeps the structure free from thermal bridging. Even the interior incorporates these rugged design elements, including moisture proof cabinetry, marine-grade electronics, and application specific hardware, making this an ideal overland expedition truck camper.
The EXP-1 is loaded with an impressive number of high-end features. Highlights include a fully insulated interior, dual pane acrylic windows, LED lighting, a 2,000 watt Xantrex pure-sine wave inverter, a Redarc MPPT DC-DC battery charger, a 320 watt solar power system with tilting roof-top solar panels, a Victron BMC Battery Monitor, an on-demand hot water heater, a 14.5 gallon fresh water holding tank, a 12.5 gallon grey water holding tank, a custom heat recovery ventilator, and an Espar D2 diesel heater.
The EXP-1 also comes with a full-size east-west bed, a roof-top marine escape hatch, a 10-foot side awning, a Unique DC compressor 3.2 cubic foot refrigerator/freezer, a built-in 55 amp battery charger with auto transfer switch, a 120 amp hour AGM battery, a proprietary hold-down system, a Thetford Porta Pottie, a rear universal ladder rack, and remote operated lighting.
Specifications of the EXP-1 include:
- 1,483 pounds dry
- 1,639 pounds wet
- COG measured from front: 28.2 inches
- Overall length: 124 inches
- Width: 79.75 inches
- Height: 83.5 inches (top of fan housing)

The retail price of the EXP-1 starts at $45,000 and comes with a lifetime warranty on the structure. Armorlite’s EXP-1 can be viewed at booth A7 at the Overland Expo West from 18-20 May.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for additional updates as they become available.
Looks like a nice truck camper but why did they go with such a space age look?
